When to resume working out?

Anonymous
I was told no strenuous exercise for two weeks following egg retrieval, and am now prepping for a frozen transfer. When can I expect to start spinning again? When, and to what kinds of exercise, did people return to following IVF and potentially in early pregnancy? Nervous, particularly given all the effort required to conceive.

This one is really up to you (as far as after transfer). I can tell you what I did, but you may want to approach differently. First, I've had four losses in the first trimester and whereas I don't think anything would have changed that, had I been running I would have questioned whether that contributed. I didn't want anything on my conscience. I ran or worked out as normal leading up to the transfer and then switched to walking or less strenuous exercise. In my pregnancies, the sickness kicks in at 5ish weeks and walking is about all I can do then anyway. When I start feeling a little better (second trimester) I start running again, and am just careful to listen to my body.

Good luck!

I went back to my normal spinning and mat exercises (Peloton) a week or so after my egg retrieval. I exercised up until the day of my FET. My doctor provided no guidance on exercise but the nurse mentioned something about heart rate. To play it safe, I stopped spinning for a week. The second week after FET I did a yoga class and 30 minute spin that was low impact and slow. Otherwise, my only exercise has just been walking. I am now 6 weeks along and really ready to do more exercising, but TBH I don’t think I could do anything super strenuous- I get winded just climbing the stairs and am exhausted all the time with early pregnancy.

I would take it easy until you are sure you don't have a subchorionic hemorrhage.
