They sit in that odd in-between where they're lesser-known by the general populace, but are incredibly overhyped by those in the know.
No one cares about your Williams or Amherst or Swarthmore, and they're slowly but surely becoming increasingly irrelevant in today's higher ed landscape. |
Not really, graduates of the three schools you mentioned will have the same grad school and employment opportunities of an HYPS grad |
This. And they'll have their pick of grad schools. |
Keep hyping. They are not worth $80,000 per year in this age. |
Jesus Christ, what is wrong with you people? There are plenty of great schools in this country, some of you are truly sick.... |
| Feel better now OP? |
| UVA strivers v. LAC hypers. Who will prevail... |
| Why are you angry, OP? |
“Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.” Lol.... No worries those colleges will be fine regardless of your opinion. As will their graduates. |
| Those schools will be just fine as will their graduates. Dh went to one and he is far far from pretentious snd went to public schools and his parents were feds and paid full freight. It has given him a great networking boost going to a NESCAC schools. He can walk into many events and when it corms out he went there its instant connection. He also got a very good education, small classes, lots of time with professors, he is still close with several and it was a good for for him and continued his life long love of learning and research and writing. I went to a large public university and i am definitely employable and had a good start but my experience was very different from his. Our kids can go there id they get in and decide its the best for for them. |

Here we go again.

I’m sure Williams will be fine without your kid |
|
Do you mean Harvard costs 40k unlike the SLACS? 😁
Also, show us the statistics that applications to Swarthmore, Williams, and Amherst are plummeting, and we’ll believe you. |
|
Huh? I think those schools are very impressive and I’m from lower-class middle America.
But whatever! I graduated from a cheap school with no debt and I have no regrets. Either way a kid who graduated with low debt will be in excellent shape, so if parents can pay their way, a liberal arts college is a great option. |

They "are incredibly overhyped by those in the know."? My LAC education tells me that this is a confusing statement. I'd recommend "are incredibly overhyped according to those in the know" or "are incredibly overhyped by those who like them."
