| Curious to hear how your DC fared if they applied with no test scores. Did it make a difference? |
| Crickets! That tells you something. A lot of deferreds that will soon be rejections. |
| There is not an across-the-board answer here. Southern publics, those schools slower to go test optional (Georgetown) are going to be more challenging for applicants without scores. Liberal arts college are more equitable in their review. |
| Everyone I know submitted scores, even though they were optional. |
| DC had late scores so did not make the deadline for some schools. We definitely had better results from schools where scores were submitted. |

You might want to request details for ED/EA/RD...could be interesting to see if there are differences.
DD is not a great test taker. Her grades (3.95 UW/ 4.3 W), extracurriculars, recommendations, essays, etc. made her top choice a match, but her scores would have put it in the reach category. Not a top 20, but a top 50. She applied ED, did not submit scores, and got in. She also received a reasonable amount of merit, which we did not expect as she was a sure bet for the school given ED. Her results might have been different EA or RD. Grateful that she took this approach and that it worked. It is a welcome bit of light at the end of the virtual school since March 2020 tunnel. |
| Admitted to Brown. |
| My DS and my nephew had very similar stats (B/B+ students). My son had SAT scores (1420) his cousin did not. Their admissions were identical, although DS got slightly more merit money at a few schools. It wasn't a huge difference, and DS had more extra curriculars, so it is hard to tell what made the difference. |
My kid with scores deferred at Brown (low 1500s) |
What were the stats? |
| 5 acceptances so far with no scores. All VA, MD and NC state universities. |
| Submitted score to Ivy League school (1500), was accepted ED. |
| DC admitted ED to top, highly competitive SLAC without test scores. DC is a strong candidate but I have a strong hunch scores would have been the factor used to filter DC out of the running. |
| Curious, it seems like a number of test-optional applicants did well in the early round. Does anyone suspect that colleges might take a lower percent test-optional in RD than in the early round? Might score submitters (who didn't ED) have any better odds with RD than with EA? |
