| We keep getting mail from Hardy and Wilson, addressed to kids names we don’t know, even after sending back to “return to sender”. We’ve owned the house for 1 year. Looks like someone is using our address to be enrolled at that schools, maybe previous owners? What’s our next step? |
| You can report residency fraud. |
How do I do that? |
| Contact the actual schools. It may not be residency fraud, more likely the previous home owner forgot to tell the school when they were telling 1 million other places. |
| i would keep RTS'ing and not bother much. |
| But you have to resubmit documents every year. If they’ve owned the home for a year, the parents have done this specifically. |
OP here. Confirming we’ve owned and lived in the house since early on the last school year (2019/2020) |
| Once you are in the school it doesn't matter where you live as long as its DC so I wouldn't go too far thinking its some horrible residency fraud thing. We receive mail for at least 3-4 different people in the place we are renting and have been here 1.5 years. |
| There are many different components of DCPS that send mail and they may not do a good job of updating addresses. A lot of students have more than one address due to divorce so it would not be an issue for the same kid to have two homes on file. Unless it is personal like report cards, I would not bother to do anything about it. And the kids could have moved somewhere else within the boundary, so this is really in no way a smoking gun. |
| Happened to me before, I called the school, spoke to the registrar who confirmed there was a data entry mistake and fixed it. I assume the students got his report card eventually. |
This is not true. You are allowed to attend the school through the truncating grade only. If this family lived in this house for 2 school years, and there is mail for Deal, that child is probably now an 8th grader. They do not have "feeder" rights to Wilson if they moved. |
This happened to us. I had to contact the school registrar to make sure she updated our address even though it had been updated through MySchoolDC. DCPS doesn’t have an automated all system update process. |
| There is a family/student who is claiming our address for going on three years now. I have sent back all mail return to sender. I have reported to osse. Nothing. |

Couple of things:
- If original registrar at the time of enrollment did not update the quadrant, you could be getting mail for students that live at your same address in a different quadrant NE, SE, or SW. The address twin but quadrant difference could also be an apartment building, which could explain multiple names etc - You bought the house a year ago; what was the house before? Was it a group home? |
