Irony. |
DP. I'm with you on the multi-racial poster board of gender balance. Call the white women who do this entitled racists. Just don't call them Karens, because that's used to shame any woman (not necessarily white, apparently) whose behavior (not necessarily racist, more likely anodyne) someone doesn't like. |
You’re here. Which means you’ve read post. Which means you’ve spent time. So which are you? |
Dp. It's ironic you say this...I guess you arent including yourself "white" woman. If you were than you would have taken you own advice and STFU! |
No. You're not going to police my language. I will call them racists, I will call them jerks, I will call them entitled, and if I feel like, I will also call the Karen. The fact that you think you can control the language of other people is exactly why the meme exists. Your sphere of influence does not extend to what I do or say. |

Weird, White Fragility came out in mid-2018 but you read it years ago. |
Well then FU for perpetuating a misogynistic meme. I'll continue to support your cause. |
So many white women are all about social justice when it’s about criticizing white men. But when white women start getting heat, they’re being “silenced.” |

I don't know I'm confused about this whole issue.
I mean I get why white women are complaining. Nobody likes to be generalized and stereotypes are awful weapons - their guidance system is totally f*cked up. If stereotypes were a missile they'd never strike the true enemy's base. You fire a stereotype missile towards the intended target and it always goes flying off someplace else. Always ends up hitting innocent people. Those are the only people who ever get hurt by stereotypes, innocent people. So I definitely understand white women's outrage because most of you are innocent. But the way this whole "Karen" argument is going the way it's starting to morph into a bigger issue about misogyny and sexism...I must admit I'm a bit confused. I'm confused cause I notice that white women are all up in arms about the term "Karen" - and rightfully so - since it paints them in a negative light and as the OP's title says it silences them. But there's plenty of other evidence of misogyny and sexism that is rampant throughout our culture too. Oddly white women are significantly less outraged about it though. Know why? Cause lots of white women benefit from it. Beauty. White women are the standard of beauty in this country. Are white women more beautiful than Asian women or Latina women or Black women - no. But the stereotype is that white women are the epitome. As a result white women are objectified constantly. It's all around us. Hell it's practically a prerequisite when a company wants to market a product that they throw some white woman into the ad or the commercial. "What have you got there a blender, a new car, premium life insurance? Okay let's make a commercial detailing the product and put a half-naked white woman blonde with big breasts in the picture even though she has nothing to do with it." Every white woman in America benefits from sexism and misogyny in that standpoint cause all the other women in America are trying to look like YOU because the generalization is that you are the standard of beauty. It's bullshit but y'all don't seem to be rattled by that disgusting stereotype. White women are fine with stereotypes and sexism when it suits them. So...I'm conflicted. On the one hand I'm like, yeah I understand why white women are mad about this whole "Karen" thing it's not right it's not fair, but at the same time I'm like, well damn...doesn't that kinda mean shouldn't we stop idolizing white women too? Is generalizing and stereotyping only a problem when it paints a negative picture or is it wrong period? |
I don’t know if it was you, but about 30 pages ago, I did seriously ask how one thought we could help that problem - I don’t think I’ve seen a response. I’ve done a few things advocating for working women that I believe were race neutral such as securing space for nursing mothers to pump when it didn’t already exist (and the organization committed to offering it to all who need it going forward) and adding an evening slot for a sports team practice that was historically only offered during the day - so kids with dual working parents could join too (still going on 5 years later). Maybe I’m not going to change the world - but I start small and locally. And I’m sure a few people thought I was a Karen in the process of advocating for those changes. Oh well. If black people want to use the term Karen, ok. I don’t think white people should use it as if they’re not part of the structural racism themselves. |
FU for trying to police others. |
Do you still think it’s 2018? |
Top pp, why are you making common cause with conservative white men and women over the need to use an offensive meme to shut up white women? |
