SecDef shares US war Plan in Group chat

Anonymous
Every parent has had this conversation with their 3 year old.

Mom: Did you eat the chocolate cake?

3 year old (covered in chocolate cake): No. I don't remember.

The government doesn't have anything better. They have special hardware and live conversation, but nothing better for people who are all over the place with different devices.

What the government has is more secure which is the issue here.

I did not know anything about him before watching that. I want to know everything about him now. That is the kind of voice we need.

I listen to Dan Abrams’ show on Sirius and there were a few callers who suggested this might be the case. I agree that Trump overall uses distraction constantly and that it’s pretty effective but there’s no way that’s what happened here.

+1 Absolutely no way

This is a HUGE mistake that will have many repercussions.

It’s classified stuff for sure. Another security violation for Petey because he didn’t properly label it in the signal group chat. Not his intel to declassify.

On reflection, lying to Congress yesterday about the classification maybe not such a slick move.

Is this Karoline again? You guys would know better if you hadn't skipped all the Orientation meetings.

Goldberg's article was timed to be dropped like a bomb one day before the testimony of Gabbard and Ratcliffe.

WSJ did this all the time with Biden and Obama appointees - they'd have a controversial story drop 1-2 days before the principals were set to testify to Congress as part of their regular schedule.

NGL, I'm surprised Trump is even still allowing his appointees to testify to Congress. That will probably stop before the end of year.

This isn't a new, why do you infer it is just a Biden or Trump thing?

Only sort of timing decision because the incident happened only a week before. There was certainly due diligence about handling the story which took some time. Once that was done it was time to publish. If the incident was a month ago and published when it was that would have been definitely calculated.

So noone will pay for this? Nothing will happen?

Waltz is probably going to be the fall guy and resign.

Too soon to say. Trump administration is hoping the news cycle will move on. GOP in Congress hoping that “looking into it” will pacific constituents.

Trump does have a remarkable teflon quality. But. This is so egregious. And it’s also coming on top of the social security anxieties and the precipitous drop in people’s retirement nest eggs.

It is a stain on all of them, every last one, and none should escape accountability even after Waltz falls on the sword.

The federal government has the enterprise version of MS Teams, which uses end-to-end encryption (just like Signal). They absolutely could've done a Teams chat and handled it securely through that channel.

They are just actively avoiding creating paper trails.

Trump doesn't care. This is a guy who had classified documents stacked in his bathroom at Mar-Lar-Go.

No Tulsi and Hegseth flat out lied yesterday to Congress and said no war plan was discussed and if it had been, it was not classified.

The Atlantic went ahead and published the war plan today since, after all, it is not classified. Members of Trump’s Cabinet lied and he’s only worried about out a bad portrait of himself in Colorado.

You should read the original source reporting. Many free links have been posted and you sound really stupid.

Were we told how Goldberg was added to the group? I use Signal for work sometimes and to add group members, I usually type in a name, which pulls the contact from my phone contacts, or I type in a phone number, if that person isn't in my contacts. So Waltz either had Goldberg in his contacts, but he's said he wouldn't know who Goldberg was even if he saw him, or he typed a phone number meant for someone else, but it ended up being Goldberg's number.

I'm open to other suggestions about how people get added to groups on Signal.

He had Goldberg in his contacts, most likely. Otherwise, he mistyped a number and it just happened to be an Atlantic editor? No way.

He showed up on my radar last week with this speech. He's got future President written all over him. Remember when Presidents spoke like this? It's been so long.
