My children are adopted from East Asian countries and I would like them to go to schools in which they are not in the complete minority. When looking at statistics on Great Schools, it does not break out Indian/Pakistani vs East Asian.
Am I right in guessing that Centreville and Annandale are largely East Asian? What about Chantilly? |
TJSST |
I would guess that Annandale is more Vietnamese than Indian/Pakistani.
I would have guessed one of the TJ feeder middle schools - Longfellow, Rocky Run, Kilmer would have the highest population of Indian/Pakistani. |
Franklin/Carson Middle Schools Chantilly |
There are large Asian populations in most parts of Fairfax County, except for southeastern Fairfax and Herndon (where many Asian families have moved to Loudoun). At the HS level:
TJ 72.0% [majority Asian and primarily East Asian and South Asian] Chantilly 38.7% Oakton 31.7% Centreville 31.6% Woodson 26.8% McLean 25.4% Langley 24.7% Westfield 23.7% [Asian population is primarily East Asian and South Asian] Lewis 23.6% Fairfax 22.6% Lake Braddock 20.8% Marshall 20.2% Annandale 18.9% Falls Church 18.3% South County 18.1% Madison 14.6% [Asian populations from different regions, but some schools have more Southeast Asians - for example, Lewis, Annandale and Falls Church have a significant number of Vietnamese-American students] West Springfield 14.2% Hayfield 14.1% Robinson 13.4% Edison 14.0% South Lakes 11.6% Justice 10.7% Herndon 10.4% West Potomac 6.3% Mount Vernon 5.5% [Lower percentages of Asian students - mostly schools in either southeastern Fairfax or Reston/Herndon] |
NP. Just reviving instead of starting a new thread. Does anyone know if Woodson or Oakton has south asian (from India) students.
Great schools just lists asians which could be east asian. Spouse is south asian and it would be great for our kids to have friends from the same culture. I know McLean does. Langley has fewer (my cousin's daughter studies there and shared). Both out of our budget. TIA. I hope I won't be attacked for this question. |
They have a South Asian club: https://woodsonhs.fcps.edu/student-life-activities/clubs-and-organizations/list-clubs-sponsors |
Marshall HS has a substantial population and your child wouldn't feel out of place. |
I live in a Chantilly neighborhood. Lots of East Asians and South Asians. |
Plenty at Oakton, including my DD’s best friend. |
In that case, don’t pick West Springfield High. Hardly any Indian students. Higher Hispanic population. |
This. Pimmit Hills - which attends Marshall HS - is becoming more and more south Asian as old homes get torn down and new houses get built. McLean HS is more E/SE Asian. |
We know several familias who are East Asian at Woodson |
You could take a look at this site:

I second this. Go with Mclean or Chantilly in FCPS or several in LCPS. Woodson, Oakton too but definitely not Lake Braddock or West Springfield. |
