Should we start a thread about how excited we are - similar to those waiting for the Private School letters to be mailed.
Is there a way to find out results on Tuesday - instead of waiting until Wednesday ....... Seriously, for many of us in the lottery the results are more important to our children and our families than which of the "Big Three" a child gets accepted to for PreK. I hope that everyone gets what they are wishing for. |
Good idea, although I think the charter lotteries are all a few weeks away still. I guess we can play twice! |
Yes, most of the charter lotteries are in April (which also is when most private school deposits are due) -- Rhee is smart to try to preempt them. |
Rhee has NO control over when Charters hold their lotteries. I am not of fan of hers - but let's limit the bashing to things that she is in control of. |
Nor when the privates make admissions decisions or demand deposits. But she controls when the DCPS lottery happens. And she's moved it up (especially the results distribution phase). Cleverly. (The 15:30 post wasn't bashing; it was giving Rhee props for competing hard.) |
and a take off of the Private School Thread: What were you doing the moment you found out your child won the lottery....
|
We submitted our application a little while ago. We can't stand the suspense. |
I cannot wait and recently changed by FB status to show how nervous we are! I totally agree this is as important for some as getting into private. It determines the next 5-6 years and at least $50-$75k in avoided private school expenses. Not to mention getting our younger siblings in... |
Remember, most people will not get in this week. There is a lot of wait list movement over the summer, real movement, and the charter lotteries are yet to come. As compared to the private school admits, where maybe the classes are 90% set by the end of March, DCPS and Charters are probably 70% set by the end of March.
Good luck this week, and stay patient! |
I agree with you but I have heard that this year it's going to be tough to get your top choices. Lots more applicants and less spots available due to siblings. Be prepared to go to your #5 or #6 just in case.

Or to charter school or private school alternatives.... |
The same dynamics are going on with top charters and privates.

Noon is just around the corner. ![]() |
I keep refreshing the site - hoping it is posted early. |
I came here this morning figuring that if results were posted early, someone would have said something. You'd think I'd be less excited, since our Absolute Top Choice is a charter that hasn't yet had its lottery. But it would be a relief to be in somewhere... |
