DS is 11 months old and 29 pounds and 33” long. He is gigantic. People think he is 2.5 years old. He wears 2T clothes but can’t even walk yet. DH and I are normal sized (5’10 and 5’7) but have tall relatives. If you had a big baby did they end up being huge? Or did their weight/height end up leveling out?
Not really. Always much taller/bigger than peers.
My cousins twins were 99th percentile in height and weight at birth and they are still in the 99th percentile at 6 year olds. Cousin and wife are fairly average. Maybe on the overweight side.
Op here - DH and I aren’t overweight. I am 5’7” and 140 DH is 5’10” and 185 |
My DS was like this as a baby toddler and is now very tall but very slim.
My son grew so big so fast that at ten months they did an MRI to make sure there was nothing wrong with his pituitary gland. He remained off the charts for height and weight until he was around 12 years old. He is 18 now and is 5’9 and 180 pounds. I’m pretty sure he’s stopped growing. They’d estimated he’d be 6’2 and 210 pounds.
DD is 4.5 now is still very tall. She wears size 6 clothes and is 2” taller than her twin brother, who is in the 85th percentile. She is projected to be 6’ tall. I am 5’7” and DH is 6’2”, so we shall see.
Mine is 7 and still 99th percentile. He’s not overweight, he’s just a big dude.
The only ones who leveled out had small parents. I know several small people who had huge babies and none of the babies went on to be very tall or big as they grew up. But for the tall/big people who had large babies, they mostly stayed on the same growth track.
My son weighed in at 10lb 13oz and at age 28 he is 5’9” and around 160 pounds.

My kid was average size as a baby but one of the babies in our mom's group was the biggest, roliest-poliest baby I have ever seen. Now all the kids are 3-4 years old and the big baby is pretty much the same size as all the other kids -- you wouldn't guess she had been a big baby. Her mom says that she was also a big baby, and she is a very average size person.
So I do think it's common for this to happen, especially if the parents are average size. |
No. He’s still 99% for height and around 95% for weight. DH and I are both average height, but I am the shortest in my family, and my DH is among the shortest in his family. My dad is 6’4” (as were his brothers) and many of DH’s uncles are that height or taller. He is tracking to be that size.
Nope, he is 6'3" and 250 at 21.
Not really. Has gone fine to like 89th percentile. He’s huge. Looks like a 3rd grader when he’s in first.
Nope. He stayed in 99th% the entire time. He's 10 now and still on track to be 6'4 and 220lbs when he's 20. He's always been huge (tall) right from when he was born. He was 28lbs at his 1 year check up, and he's been taller than his older sister since he was 1. DH and I are average heights 6'0 and 5'6.
