Did your big baby slow down in growth and level out?

Was always 99th percentile. Lately, at 12 yrs old, down to 95th. I expect he won’t hold his curve once puberty hits. If genetics are the guide, he will probably be tall but thinner.

My cousin was a huge baby (10 plus pounds) and he's probably 6'3"-6'4" and 200s.

Is he an IVF baby?

Yep. 10lb baby. He’s now a 32lb 3 year old. Super tall and skinny just like my Dh. He’s always 95th for height but no longer chunky.

Also, Dh was a 10lb 2oz baby and he’s 165lbs and 6’3.

Op here - no he isn’t. He was born at 38 weeks and was 8lbs10oz.

My son was 10lbs 3oz at birth and stayed on that curve for height - he has always been slim. He is 6’2” and 135lbs at 14, still growing like a weed.

Mine has stayed big. So has the huge baby from a baby play group I was in. He’s now a huge high schooler.

If your baby’s growth is really out of line with family background, you could get a consult with an endocrinologist. Growths on glands can cause unusual growth.

My ds was over 11 lbs at birth and was big through toddlerhood. He’s still tall at 10, but is super skinny now (like can count his ribs skinny).

Dd was a blob of a baby - so many fat rolls! Now at 8, she’s average height for her age and also very skinny.

I think it’s very common for kids to thin out once they get mobile, but they usually stay on their curve for height.

My 99%ers are 3 and 4.5 snd haven’t slowed. Girl and boy

Dd was 50% height and weight at birth, then shot up to 95th and at some point "off the charts" between 6m and 3 years. DH and I are both tallish and thin. I'm 5'7 and 135lbs. Dd is now 4yo and something like 90% for height and weight (coincidentally 44"and 44lbs). So she's still quite big but creeping down in percentiles. At this point, she stands out for her height more than her weight, i think. She was an incredibly chubby baby and toddler but is now just kind of solid. I imagine she'll always be a bigger kid. My son on the other hand is pretty long and lean (more like me and DH) at 20 months old.

No not totally out of line. My brother is 6’2” and DH has uncles well over 6’2”. Op here.

Brother was like this, he grew up to be about 5’9 and 140 lbs. As an infant he was so fat his feet didn’t fit in shoes.

My son was only 9 lb 5 oz at birth, but 29 lbs at 6 months—way more than chubby. Dr ordered genetic tests, nothing was wrong with him. At age 2 he still weighed 30 lbs but was quite tall. 99 percentile for most of childhood. Now almost 22 and is 6ft 200 lbs –but lifts weights and purposely eating a lot to fuel big muscles. Otherwise he was slender. (Parents short 5’3” and 5’9”and we are both slender)

My younger DS was that exact weight at birth, and was also 29 lbs at 1 (weird). He was 40 lbs at two, and gained the nickname “Tank” among our friends. But he stayed at the 40 lb mark until he was 6 or 7, at which point he was very thin. He’s now 12 at 5’5 and 90 lbs.
