| My DD has been unhappy at her current private and has asked to go to Langley. We know very little about the school and would appreciate any advice from this board. We know some wonderful kids there and are hopeful it will be a good experience for her. But, we've also heard horror stories about drug busts etc. What is it really like? |
| big enough that your kid can find good kids, bad kids, and all other types of kids. |
| Lots of drugs and recreational sex. Many kids have too much money and too little parental attention. Keep a close watch on which group of friends she selects. Otherwise a great school. |
Do you actually have kids that go there, or you just interested in perpetrating a stereotype? Which is basically what this is. |
No kidding. Would you rather they be having sex to procreate? WTH else would you doing it for? Why do you have sex? Moron. |

It's a big public high school. Lots of options in terms of classes and resources. Kids of all kinds. She can find her crowd there, I'm sure. Easier to disappear into the crowd, which can be both good and bad. All the kids that I know who go there really like it.
The zoning is weird, and depending on where you live your friends can still be quite a distance away. For instance, we live fairly close to Langley, and our neighbor's kid who goes has friends who are all the way down Georgetown Pike almost into Herndon who also attend. She worries a lot about the drive between the two houses at night. (Can't blame her). My kids are in private, so the friends-far-away thing is a constant issue for us. |
DP here. Most stereotypes are based in some truth. Are you actually denying the bold? Most parents from Langley I know would acknowledge this truth. |

Langley has a large population of extremely academically competitive kids. As you probably know, the “rich” kids from Great Falls mostly go to private school which is why it is under enrolled.
Check the FCPS site for demographics and drug incidents. It has all the info available. Overall a pretty safe school and definitely does not have more drugs than other high schools. Ranked high in FCPS and in Virginia. Very good test scores. Depending on what private school your daughter is coming from, it may be overwhelming academically. |

More money = more drugs. Though not necessarily more than at a private school.
Langley families stick their heads in the sand when it comes to this topic. A lot of them are heavily invested in the school's image and only acknowledge the positives. |
Langley parent here. It’s beyond obvious you’re the usual troll who becomes triggered at the mere mention of Langley. There are kids of all types there - just as there are at ALL high schools. I’ve had three kids attend/graduate and we’ve been very happy with the range of classes offered and the quality of instruction. My three very different kids were all able to find their “people” with common interests. |
No, what we have said repeatedly in response to the usual trolls is that there are no more negatives at Langley than at any other school - and it’s fair to say there are a whole lot of positives. You just can’t stand to hear it. Sounds like a you problem. |
Re: the bolded - most kids in this area do not attend privates. A lot do, of course, but most go to the publics because they’re so good. |
DP. Are you the parent who chimed in even though your kids go to private? Would you like to discuss the bolded as it relates to private schools?
|
| Langley is a bubble of really well off kids but your DD is coming from a private so that should not be an issue. |
The difference is really well off kids getting less attention and supervision than they’d get at a private. |
