Keeping feet healthy during indoor exercise

Anonymous
I don't like to wear shoes indoors and have been doing my winter fitness routine barefoot or in regular socks. For stuff like yoga and pilates, barefoot is normal. But what about higher impact activities, dance, etc? I'm tired of bruising my toes when I drop my hula hoop. I worry that I'm messing up my feet (or setting up myself for a nasty fall in slippery socks) when I'm bouncing around to music on a wood floor long enough to count as cardio.

I've been debating buying grippy Toesox or a pair of (real) ballet slippers. What do you wear on your feet in lieu of sneakers when exercising indoors?

Just designate a pair of sneakers to be your indoor workout shoes. Don’t wear them outside. Problem solved.

I didn’t wear shoes in the house ore pandemic and I got terrible plantar fasciitis by going barefoot all spring/summer/fall. Now I wear sneakers in the house all the time. I have indoor ones and outdoors ones.

This is a great solution for scuffing up floors.

Why don’t you buy pair of regular sneakers that you only wear indoors?

Buy a rubber mat to protect the floor if you're worried. I have interlocking foam squares. I also have indoor sneakers.

Never had this problem.

You lost me at “hula hoop”. Say what?

+1 sadly -- for me it wasn't pandemic, but just switching to full telecommute and working out at home several years ago.

Def wear shoes. I also ended up with plantar fasciitis and now am stuck at home and can’t exercise and slowly going crazy. Always wear footwear in the home. Have a pair specifically for inside.

Rephrasing the OP. Ruling out traditional athletic sneakers, what is good alternative footwear for indoor exercise? What do people wear in studio environments?

Try Paul Eugene Turbo Chair on youtube - you can break a sweat with chair-based exercise.

It depends on your activity. When I'm doing barre work, I'm in ballet slippers. Indoor only running shoes on the treadmill. You get the idea
