What is the latest on Lafayette reopening ?

We are a Lafayette family with two kids in the school. Any idea what the reopening plans are ? I am hearing that other nearby DCPS schools are moving forward with lottery slots to reopen in February. We have heard nothing about this from Lafayette recently.

Email your LSAT reps.

We're at Lafayette too. Check your emails from the Principal because they address this. Sometimes they go to spam so check your spam folder.

It seems like decisions were made very thoughtfully. I don't understand the plan for older kids, every other week. In the LSAT discussion, it says that an advantage to this approach is that simulcasting won't be necessary. Are all teachers in person? Who is teaching the kids during their virtual weeks?

Agreed - enormous amounts of work went into creating plans. There will be simulcasting - for the half of students who are home during their wee,, and for students in-person whose teacher is remote: the older grades all have team teachers, and at least one teacher per team was willing to come back.

Thanks. I was confused because the LSAT notes say that an advantage of this plan is "Teaching techniques likely stay the same between the two models because
simulcasting isn’t needed."

There have been weekly, sometimes several a week, emails with information sent out by the principal to enrolled Lafayette families. Something is amiss if you've missed all the emails, zoom calls, etc.

I'm depressed today because my Kindergartener didn't lottery into an in-person seat, so unless bunches of families turn down their seats, she will remain in virtual school hell except now with a new teacher and classmates. My DC is going to be devastated. Trying to hold onto the fact that in this moment, we are healthy. Everything sucks right now.

I heard that Covid testing is optional for students. Have you experienced or witnessed parents refusing to let their child get tested?

Hang in there. I would not be surprised if there are large amounts of kids who do turn it down. If there are health risks at home, people aren't going to send their kids.

I am at Lafayette as well. Be patient. I think the younger kids will get a spot if they want to go.

I can't imagine a K student being "devastated" over this. Are you being a touch dramatic?

Fellow depressed mom. My kindergartner also did not get a spot. Given that the previous survey indicated 86% demand for IPL spots for Lafayette K and there are only 70 seats for 120ish kids, I'm not optimistic that we'll get one. I'm also so disappointed that my kiddo will lose her great teacher.

DP here. Of course a kindergartener would be devastated. DL is AWFUL for most young kids.
