What is the latest on Lafayette reopening ?

PP thanks for reminding us that other places have closed schools. I keep telling myself, the safest plan is to wait for the vaccine and for the numbers to go down. Reopening now in the middle of the worst days of the pandemic is insane.

+1 but I stay quiet because last time I said this here, someone tasked me with a literature review to prove it, and I'm being lazy.

Looks like all students who wanted them have in person spots except for 20 in Kindergarten. Pretty impressive!

I'm not a big fan of Dr. B, but she is really, really good at logistics and organization.

Would love it if she would take kids from our school, where we are not reopening. No equity at DCPS.
Well done Lafayette.

I'm depressed today because my Kindergartener didn't lottery into an in-person seat, so unless bunches of families turn down their seats, she will remain in virtual school hell except now with a new teacher and classmates. My DC is going to be devastated. Trying to hold onto the fact that in this moment, we are healthy. Everything sucks right now.

Hang in there. I would not be surprised if there are large amounts of kids who do turn it down. If there are health risks at home, people aren't going to send their kids.

I can't imagine a K student being "devastated" over this. Are you being a touch dramatic?

Sadly kids that young take their cues from their hysterical parents.

"You poor BABY! I can't BELIEVE you have to continue with this terrible PRETEND SCHOOL!"

Yeah right. No parent is saying that to their kids and risking even more hellish whining. We are all smiling and tap dancing. The trouble is they are smart enough to know this is a crappy alternative to being in a classroom, and they remember being in a classroom because it was a lot more fun than this is. This pandemic and the response to it is robbing them of their best school years, when they actually like school and adore their teacher.
