I am so sick to death of the Cooke troll(s) that I'm making it my personal mission to keep this thread higher than the 9 pages - mostly crap - about Cooke.
Hope to see many people tomorrow at the open house. One inch of snow can't scare us, right? |
Bump. I'll be there snow or no. |
If folks are going to the open house, would they be interested in exchanging e-mail addresses so those of us actually interested in Cooke can stay in touch with each other. I know the school can't do that b/c of privacy issues, but can a parent take names voluntarily? |
There's an HD Cooke Parents group on Yahoo -- you should join that (I have). |
The Yahoo group appears to be mostly at PTA communication device (nothing wrong with that, it is useful), but I was thinking about something that gave parents who are considering the school a place to communicate more freely (e.g., the teachers and principal are not on the list -- I think the principal is great, but if there is going to be an honest discussion, someone with concerns should be able to raise them) |
over the summer and early in the school year, this yahoo group did just that. |
I'm the PTA president - I put together an e-mail list of those who attended the first open house this year, and sent them a follow-up e-mail. I will request your e-mail addresses at this open house as well. I then send you one (1) e-mail as a follow-up (not very quickly - I'm swamped) and you all could take it from there (deleting me from the list if you wanted). I'll also pass out my e-mail tomorrow (I won't put it here 'cause I don't want to get spammed).

I wish that DCPS schools would also hold open houses on the weekends - at least so we could tour the facility. It makes it very difficult for working parents to do all of these visits during work hours. |
I think it is hard for them to open on weekends and have necessary guards and etc. |
The facility, without the children and teachers in it, really doesn't tell you much about the nature of the school. |
Are there parents who specifically want to see H.D Cooke after hours or on weekends? Maybe you could let the school know and they could arrange something. Or maybe there is a way you could meet with current parents, at the playground or something. |
Is this a joke? Or a test of the crime/fear factor? |
I'm not sure why you think this was anything but an honest question? But, maybe I'm not snarky enough for these boards. I'm thinking about parents who can not make the weekday open house because of their jobs. If they want to arrange an open house at a time when they can come (i.e. evenings or weekends) maybe that could be arranged. If someone comes to the daytime open house and thinks they want to see the outside of the building at night or on saturday, they can do that on their own. And, as a neighbor of the school, I can say that walking by there on weekends or evening is not so "scary". |
I lived in Adams Morgan and went to Cooke to vote, a decade ago. Recently drove by the renovated building, it looks great! And exciting to hear about an involved and committed principal on these boards. Good luck to all who attend, and all who enter this week's lottery seeking a place. |
