One very interesting thing the principal mentioned this morning was that she had been approved to hire a resource teacher for next year to help kids who were advanced learners (they already have help for those who are behind). She noted that she has some cases of advanced kids being allowed to attend some blocks with upper grades (she gave an example of a PK kid going to reading block in the first grade). It certainly gave the impression she is thinking about how to make sure better prepared kids are not bored.

So how'd it go today? |
Looked like a bunch of happy and interested parents to me. Its going to be at or near the top of my list tomorrow. (Let the flames begin...). |
to 16:57, wow, a resource aide for advanced kids, I've never heard of this in DCPS! sounds fabulous and like the principal understands both student needs and DCPS budget maniputlations. |
I'm not familiar enough with DCPS to know if this is that unique, but I was glad to hear it. It made me feel like she was really thinking about the needs of all the kids at the school (and it is clear that the principal really cares about all the kids in the school). |
anyone who would flame you has a serious problem. |
Fellow future Cooke parents in AM, Col. Hts and MtP (or elsewhere: good luck on the lottery. I put Cooke top of my list and I'm looking forward to walking to school with you in the fall. Lets stay in touch over the summer and get to know each other. |
Yay for you! Watch this space for announcements about happy hours and get togethers for existing and new parents. |
Yay. Indeed. |
