BPA-free, microwavable containers

Anonymous
Anyone know where I can find BPA-free, microwavable containers (besides pyrex) that are suitable for taking my lunch to work? TIA!

check the rubbermaid site--they will tell you which of their containers is BPA free

Whole Foods has some that look like Gladwear that are BPA free. The Container store also has BPA free containers, although I'm not sure if they are microwavable.

I use a pyrex bowl, cover it with a paper plate in the micro. I think all plastic is going to turn out to be bad, heating it causes it to leach into the food.

I'm not (or maybe wasn't) a rabid plastic hater, but even I've gone to glass containers. I either pack in a foogo thermos food container to keep things warm, or I use glass to reheat at work (same for my son). The Container Store has a huge variety of different shapes and covers, and you would likely find something that appeals to you.

I grew up in the 70s when plastic was the norm (Tupperware parties galore). What changed my mind was my mother telling me that her mom would always use glass and never plastic, because back in the 50s when plastics starting becoming very common place, the FDA warned even then that it didn't know what the health impact would be. Why my mother switched to plastic, I don't know. Although we didn't have a microwave back then. The two seem to be a pretty bad combination though.

This.

That. (and FWIW, I don't yet have a child who I need to warm up foods for - it's purely for my own sake)

Also switched to glass. Costco has a set that includes all different sizes with snap-on plastic tops (I remove the tops for heating).

Slightly off topic: At the cafeteria at work, sometimes the food is so hot that it melts the styrofoam container. The food tastes like plastic. I wonder how harmful this is. If it's too bad, I'll throw the whole thing out. Anyone know anything about styrofoam?

This cannot be good. I'd throw it out.

I bring my food to work in a plastic container, then often heat it up in a bowl I keep in the office or paper plates.
