On Christmas Eve a bunch of people decided to pretend it was the 4th of July and that New Hampshire Ave was the Potomac River. Professional grade fireworks were lit off all around Silver Spring, Takoma Park and Langley Park until 2am.
Were there other areas that were barraged with fireworks over the holiday week, and has anyone contacted PGPD and MCPD about preparing for another barrage on New Year's Eve? Alcohol and fireworks are a lethal combination. |
| They’re just celebrating the fact that we have made it this far without dying or the entire world burning down. Cut them some slack. |
|
Yeah it happens pretty much every major holiday over here EOTR. (And literally every single night from June-September)
I don't mind it personally, but I feel bad for my dog, who is going to have to be drugged up to the gills tonight. |
???? I don't like it, and it's not legal, but nonetheless it's a fact that Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are traditional holidays for fireworks. |

Millions of people entertain friends and family with fireworks every year. Aside from a few notable accidents due to negligence and stupidity that always get media coverage, they are overwhelmingly safe. A few idiots hurting themselves doesn’t make it unsafe. Just as drunk drivers don’t make YOU a dangerous driver.
You’re probably the same poster who complained about Santa riding around on a fire truck tossing candy canes to children. |
Not the PP. I understand the general reason, but there's a difference between planned fireworks celebrations and fireworks that continue for hours on end well into the night. It is unnerving for many people, including those who suffer from PTSD, not to mention pets. It is one thing if you can plan on when the celebrations will be held, it is another thing to hear random explosions all night. |
Yes, they are 100% illegal and for over my 50+ years of existence, fireworks have never been part of any Christmas Eve celebration that I have known. Also, these aren't bottle rockets and roman candles. These are industrial grade fireworks. The same type of fireworks used down on the Mall for the 4th of July. How dense and stupid can you people be? https://twitter.com/mcfrsPIO/status/1344447559088091137 |
Call the cops if you see it. You won’t though because you are scared of your neighbors. |
I'm not the person you replied to, but it has nothing to do with being afraid of your neighbors, it's that the police don't care at all, and even if they do show up it's an hour or more later and by then that particular neighbor isn't setting them off anymore. Not that it would matter even if they were, the cops drive around my neighborhood watching people set off fireworks all summer and never do anything. |
Plan on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Yes, it's upsetting for many people and pets.
|
Yeah I don't like it, but I do plan on it. It's been the norm here for a while. |
| My neighborhood will probably have non stop fireworks tonight if it doesn't rain. I'm happy everyone is still alive. |
Your impotent rage is awesomely funny. You should start scolding the clouds, too! |
It's very odd. No one here is setting off the fireworks, and it seems like no one here wants them, but apparently it's "dense and stupid" not to be very mad enough about it. |
When did Christmas Eve become a night for fireworks? Is this only a DMV thing or is it everywhere? |
