Yes, they are 100% illegal and for over my 50+ years of existence, fireworks have never been part of any Christmas Eve celebration that I have known.

Also, these aren't bottle rockets and roman candles. These are industrial grade fireworks. The same type of fireworks used down on the Mall for the 4th of July.
