DCPS 21/22 - Hybrid, All virtual or In-person? What you think?

Anonymous
I think hybrid. At least until January 2022.

Depends. If they get a vaccine for kids 12 and up over the finish line, middle school could go back. With 16 year olds being vaccinated as soon as this summer, I don't see why they couldn't have 11th and 12th grades at least.

I think it should be a normal school year. Why not? The adults are the ones at risk, and they will be vaccinated.

I think they have to continue to operate DL for kids who legitimately can't safely attend, but most schools will be operating hybrid in the fall and full in the spring.

If they can vaccinate all adults by August, we should have enough protection for kids without health complications. They need to make it a priority. Things are going so slowly that I’m very nervous.

Anything but a normal, full-time school year would be a complete failure. There is no reason why school can’t open full-time in the fall.

+1 - I have a kid going to kindergarten and I’m afraid for distance learning. I applied to a couple privates a backup. Worse case scenario, we would return for 1st grade.

It all depends how many adults are vaccinated, and the trends in cases, hospitalizations and deaths.

If all goes well, schools can reopen with masks.

Sadly, that's a big "if".

Schools all over the US have been open and fully operational during the worst of this all. If DC can't open doors after 8 months of vaccine implementation I don't see the system recovering fully for years and years.

Next school year starts in 8 months. That is a very long time in the current climate. I would like to think we will all be back in person, but with masks.

+1. Absolutely ridiculous if we are not fully open in the Fall.

We did this for K this year and left our older elementary student in DL at DCPS. Should have done it for the year for both of them, but having the K student in school saved my job.

+2 same! Another kids going to K, one going to 1st and 4th. Will keep 4th grader in DCPS, K and 1st will go to private.

What? It’s out of the question that school should be in person by fall 2021.
