Okay #1, psychedelic mushrooms are not "legalized" and you know it. You cannot just go out and buy them somewhere. All that happened in DC is that this category of substance was decriminalized, making it a very low enforcement priority for MPD. That said, I am sure it already WAS A very low priority for MPD because...

#2, as a person who has many friends who have used various drugs over the years and someone who currently works in mental healthcare, frequently with people who have substance use problems, I have met ZERO people whose gateway drug to heroin was mushrooms. I have, however, met a LOT of people whose gateway to heroin was a prescription painkiller that they obtained legally for legitimate problems and the became addicted to. THAT story is extremely common.

Maybe you and your parents would do better to focus on the actual problems this country has with substance abuse. It is definitely not psychedelics of any kind.
