Postpartum - what are you buying for yourself!

It's important to take care of ourselves after birth as well. I'm starting to buy supplies and am curious what you all are buying / found useful in your past pregnancies?

I bought myself a nice set of PJs, slippers, new big water bottle and choc covered almonds. This is my 2nd go around get a nice comfy pumping bra if you're going that route

Depends for the first few days with padsicles.

Advil.

If you nurse, a huge cup for water everywhere you nurse with instructions to partner to keep it filled always.

Foam earplugs. FOAM EARPLUGS.

If you're nursing, nice nursing bras for sleeping (I like Kindred Bravely). I used to sleep naked but the nursing bras helped keep leaks in check I think.

A housecleaner.

Takeout food.

Lots of lanolin and gel pad things if you're nursing.

If you're pumping, extra pump parts so you don't have to wash them every time. Also a good pumping bra.

A new camera or lens if you like taking photos.

Slippers.

I just bought myself a comfortable pair of combat-style weatherproof boots. This is my third kid so I don't need much and there's no point in buying clothes until I get back to my size but since I'm going to be on my feet all the time chasing around my other two while wearing my newborn, nice boots that I can wear through Spring seemed like a good buy.

Comfy joggers with pockets. A nice soft robe with pockets. A good insulated water bottle so that I can have ice cold water during middle of the night nursing sessions (I get so thirsty when nursing!) A necklace with my kids’ initials. Streaming subscriptions so I can watch movies/tv during nursing sessions. Good moisturizer.

People are going to jump all over me, but the best thing I did was get a serious post partum girdle and wear it for 12 weeks. I had to buy a couple sizes because obviously you get smaller, but I HATED the feeling of my belly jiggling and this kept everything tight and feeling secure. I also truly believe it helped my ab muscles get back together. Note: it did NOT help me lose weight, I was one of those who kept 20 lbs on me until the day I stopped breastfeeding. But then the weight dropped and I could confirm what I had felt: my stomach muscles were totally back to normal.

I used a belly wrap/body shaper thing after all 3 of my pregnancies. So helpful in supporting core muscles that have weakened and moved during pregnancy. I really didn’t like that empty/jiggly feeling like my internal organs were just swimming around my body and the shaper was key for me!

Agreed, though, that this is not about losing weight or looking good,, just a personal preference when it comes to comfort. I used a thick stretchy shaper that attaches and a adjusts with velcro

Third baby and I don’t need anything new but there’s one specific thing I’m getting this time - a big insulated thermos to keep warm water in next to the toilet. I’ll use it to fill up the peri bottle so I don’t have to wait two minutes every single time I pee for the faucet water to turn warm. Our water takes forever to warm up in the winter! I’ve had second degree tears with both previous deliveries and the peri bottle is an absolute necessity but I can’t stand cold water squirting on me. I thought about getting a bidet installed, but our toilet is too far from the sink to easily install the temperature control feature to have warm water.

Is there a specific one that either of you like? I remember hating that feeling like my insides were flopping around with zero muscles keeping them in, and I think I’d like to try a belly wrap this time.

I used the belly bandit, which I liked. I also got one off of amazon (can’t remember the brand) that had a lot of good reviews and ended up working well, also.
