Tulane or Wake Forest?

It'll be my DC's call, of course, but my vote has been solicited. I favor Tulane for among other reasons that I think Parents' Weekend will be a blast. Ok, I'm kidding (sort of). So they seem pretty comparable apart from location. What's your vote and why?

Wake. Better faculty and student engagement. Overall better school. But if location matters obviously New Orleans out performs Winston-Salem on every level. Undergraduate at Wake, Graduate at Tulane.

Tulane is much better recognized.

I had a few friends that went to Tulane. I cannot believe that they managed to graduate living in NOLA for 4 years. All schools are party schools, but Tulane takes it to a different level. And I went to school in ATX so that's saying a lot. I'd vote Wake Forest in a heart beat.

I would look into RoI and outcomes. There should be plenty of institutional research data out there.

I only have anecdata to share about my cousin: 2019 grad. Partied four nights a week and at summer study abroad in Brazil. Virtually all of his friends were also private school grads. He applied to 30 medical schools, rejected 29, waitlisted and finally accepted at a top 100 school with straight As and excellent MCAT.

The crime statistics were always a concern but it seemed like nothing ever happened to my cousin. It did seem like all of the custodians and food service workers were AA and all the students were white. I'm sure that it's more diverse every year though.

Wake is ranked well above Tulane if that matters. Tulane seems to be always trying to tamp down its party school reputation.

Wake is an outstanding school with exceptionally dedicated faculty in beautiful surroundings without the excessive party environment. My vote... hands down Wake Forest!

But it's still a fun school. Wake all the way.

WAKE ! Better at all!!

Both are great options! My DS graduated from Wake. Wake offers a very strong academically rigorous environment - that is why they call it WORK Forest. Great education, but it is not easy by any means! Strong school spirit. Very preppy and priviledged - greek life dominates.

Wake is very expensive! So is Tulane but I’ve heard that they give more aid!

Wake for sure. Not just bc of Tulane's party element, but for academic reputation. Wake Forest will open more doors professionally than Tulane. That said, I have been to Mardi Gras x3, Jazz Fest once, and to NO for various work trips-- it is an amazing city and so much fun, so I also would love more excuses to visit...but I would (gently) push Wake if it was my kid.

Also, this is DCUM so this might not be an issue for you-- I visited friends at Tulane a bunch in college, and it definitely has that rich kid dynamic. It might just have been the particular fraternity parties we went to, and the people I was visiting, but coming from a UMC background it was very noticeable to me how much more privileged the Tulane students we were hanging out with were. Just mentioning in case this is a factor. Wake might be similar, but I've never visited so no personal knowledge.
