It is too common. Think "John Doe."
There. I said it. It is also why I did not change my last name. |
| That must have been weighing so heavily on you |
| Ok. |

I don't like my husband's last name either. It's very unique, kind of guttural sounding, and never, ever, pronounced correctly.
I did change my name, because it meant so much to him - it was REALLY important. I have gotten used to it, but I'll never really like it. He makes reservations under my maiden name - which drives me crazy given how deeply he felt about the issue. |

Yes tell me about it.

| Wow, OP. How in the world do you cope with such suffering? |
| Same. I also am attached to my own last name it as it’s been with me since birth. I kept my maiden name (outdated term!), but our child carries his name. That was important to both of us. |
| Changing your last name is outdated, imo. I’m not my husband’s property, I have my own name. Honestly though OP no one cares. |
| My DH last name is fine, but I hate his family and don’t like to be linked in that way. Nevertheless, I took his last name. |
| I would love a common last name. Makes a google search very vague |
| Me either. I struggled with changing my name and still use my maiden name professionally. I also found it odd to change my name years after starting a career. |
| I was happy to change my name. My original name was hard to enunciate. I would change my name regardless. I don't want my kids to have a different last name than me. |
Lol. Now that's funny. My DH's name, spoken over the phone, can sound a lot like a very famous actor. We've had a range of outright confusion, a hang up from a host thinking it was a prank call, and disappointment when we nobodies showed up. |

I don't like ours either. No one can pronounce it, even in our country of origin people get it wrong all the time.
And no one ever said my first name correctly anyway, so now I have a first name and a last name that flummox people. |
