I’m looking for a secular preschool with a twos program that allows for part-time, has a nice private playground, and is somewhat convenient (NW DC). Play based is key. A lot of the ones I’ve heard of are church or synagogue based. I need a few options in case we don’t get into some. Thanks for any leads! |
CCBC (in church, but not affiliated). I don't know if St. Columba's is religious. St. Paul's, across the street from Murch, is 5 days a week, but only mornings. Affiliated with the church, but absolutely nothing religious (I'm Jewish and pretty sensitive to such things). |
NCRC! It is a wonderful play based program, convenient to the red line metro if it matters, not affiliated to any religious group. The twos class is part time and they have been doing a good job with managing to stay open during the pandemic. Their playground is amazing too. |
School for Friends near Dupont Circle. Small, nurturing, all around amazing. |
This looks great! Is it hard to get into? —NP |
No part-time options though, right? |
And definitely Quaker. Best choice I made for my child, and if you were going to pick a religion to send a kid to who wasn’t religious Quaker would be it, but Quaker philosophy pervades the curriculum. |
Looks like St. Paul's is permanently closed. ![]() |
Insanely hard to get into, PP. The oldest continuously running preschool in America. Outstanding facilities and teaching staff. Truly superior and lives up to its reputation. But you know what, can’t hurt to apply. Go for it. If your DC gets in, it’s worth it. |
I wouldn't say it's insanely hard to get in to any more. Highly sought after, yes. But private preschools are having a tough time competing with free preschool in DC. The twos class (I'm talking 2-2.5 yo) tends to be a lot of siblings as it's very small, but at the 2.5-3yo age you have a very good chance of landing a spot at least in the PM class. |
