4yo DD always colors while lying down on her tummy on the playmat. I think it’s fine, but DH always asks her to sit up and color at her work table. Does it matter either way?
Yes! Core strength development is crucial (signed mom whose DC was in weekly PT for 4 years)
It’s important.
As the parent of a kid who had low tone, I think it's ridiculous to make a kid always color sitting at a table for their posture. My kid built strength running, jumping, climbing, doing the monkey bars, swimming, etc. She had to fight to be able to do all of those things. Our PT encouraged us to let her be at home and not interrupt playing to correct her position, and that was for a kid with a diagnosed issue. Your husband is being way to controlling.
Totally important.
It's important, but so is her mental health, ability to relax and enjoy, an activity, and her relationship with her father. Learn to pick your battles.
Way too controlling.
The two don’t have much to do with each other, IMHO. Sitting to work is different than chilling out to play. Posture also comes with not slouching at the dinner table, standing up straight when we do stand, etc. I don’t think a child playing on the ground, colouring, correlates with bad posture later in life.
Never heard of this. Kids are normal and healthy and in middle school.

Coloring while lying on your tummy isn’t “bad posture”. It’s just a different, and perfectly healthy/fine, position.
Now, if she’s slouching whenever sitting on a chair, or lacks the core strength to play at the playground, that’s a problem. But you don’t have to sit at a table to color. Your DH needs to chill out. |

She is coloring- on her tummy. I don't get it. Let her!!
Does she eat upright? Does she walk upright? Does she run and kick a ball? What is the problem? |
This isn't a posture issue. It's a dispute about positioning. Let her do what she wants.
Posture is very important and I remind kids to sit / stand straight WHEN they are slouching. I wouldn’t ask a child coloring on her tummy on the floor to go sit and maintain a good posture.
It’s totally fine. She is upright most of the time, right?
Next year in kindergarten she’ll be sitting to color. Why not start as you need to continue?
