And the new temporary HOS is the Head of Operations. |
One might expect nothing less ... |
The lucky number 7 HOS starts over the summer. The school is currently in its 5th year. |
The BIM dumpster fire rages on unchecked, sounds like. The Head of Operations has very little actual experience teaching or supervising teachers; she does the admin stuff at a minimally acceptable level. I can't imagine her in the actual HOS role, even for six months.
Have to say that BIM is consistent. They find a new way to blow up their disintegrating reputation further each and every year. |
What is going on over there? The families I know who have kids there say their kids love it and the teachers are wonderful. |
Yes, BIM has excellent teachers who do great work in the classroom in terms of achieving test results. The overall management of the school and its corporate owners is........well, somewhere between complete chaos and out of control. The next HOS due next year is currently running one of the BIN schools in China, so he will be totally beholden to the same idiot CEO who has made Basis Independent McLean what is today. A failing startup business that blew its chance in a promising market. |
Their teachers seem very impressive and the kids love them. Obviously the HOS turnover is not good, but how much impact does the HOS have on the students’ daily learning and experience? |
Well, there is also very high teacher turnover, and while there are indeed some very good teachers (as there are at every school), many of the teachers are not. But to answer your question: it matters because it shows how stressful and awful it is to work at BIM. The HOS resigned before his 2-year contract ended because of the toll it was taking on his and his family's mental health. This is not limited to administration. And even if it were true that all kids at BIM "love" their teachers and are happy there, wouldn't it still matter that the place is a toxic work environment? |
What makes it toxic? |
The constant stream of unkept promises and sudden changes to management, personnel, and facility plans. Someone looking for a school to place their kid the next 6-7 years literally has no idea what to expect at BASIS except teachers with lots of AP classes. Everything else is 100% subject to change with no notice or apology. That's how the BIN CEO runs the place. No teacher can be sure what or if they will be teaching there in the future as the enrollment continues to decline, and the school's reputation swirls down the drain. So what can students count on in terms of faculty? |
Enrollment was up considerably this year |
It only took a pandemic to get people to go to BIM. FCPS parents scrambled to find anywhere with a chance of in person school. Will they stay? |
Exactly |
|
At this pony even we are considering this school since our local schools can’t get it together |
