| Why is there so much roadside litter in Maryland as compared to NOVA? It's like people go to Chic fil A or McDonalds then throw their trash out their car window, I have never seen this phenomena anywhere else in my life. I lived 20 years in NOVA, recently moved to Maryland, and I am shocked and disgusted. What can we do to stop this? |

As an immigrant living in Maryland, the litter everywhere (even in rural areas and beautiful drives) is unbelievable. Does not look like a first world country. What a shame. I am surprised that people are ok with it. |
| So any solution ideas? |
|
The state probably reduced highway litter pickup as a cost savings measure.
At least Maryland regularly mows its roadway medians, unlike Virginia which does the bare minimum in median maintenance... |
I'd rather have overgrown medians than litter ha ha |
+1. I still see litter crews out on a regular basis here in Virginia. |
| Lots of non/low-taxpayers in MD... |
what difference does this make, not being snarky, truly I am curious? |
| I’ve never noticed this. Where are you driving? |
Southern Maryland |
Less funding available to allocate towards nonessential services like street cleaning. |
| The stupid outside maskers are now unintentionally littering their masks everywhere. It's awful. |
That's a poor area. You are comparing a poor area to a rich area like NoVa? If I drive around poor parts of VA will I see litter on the roads? Yes, I will. |
Oh ok
So why do poor areas have more litter, what is the correlation between poor and litter? |
really? |
