When a protest prevents this primary function that students/parents/taxpayers are PAYING for, it is no longer a peaceful lawful protest.

Would you say the same about protesters who sat in diners in the south to protest segregation? Those were private businesses and the protesters interrupted people's lunch, the primary purpose of those lunch counters. I guess they deserved having water cannons sprayed at them???

Seriously, this is a path that we should not be going down.

For the millionth time, black people being used as a prop, how original.

Substitute it as a protest for anything else then. LGBTQ rights. Women’s rights. A protest against the election of Donald trump. A protest against the loss of Donald Trump. Are those going to be your standards of when law enforcement should intervene? Well they were disrupting people! Let’s arrest them all!

If trump wins or loses, you can bet there will be massive protests. I wonder if you will have the same standards at that time for peaceful protests.

Protests that break the law are not peaceful. Yeah, even if hate the country you are protesting in.

They were arrested for obstructing a sidewalk. That’s the law they were breaking.

I'm literally laughing over here.

Drag queen made kids chant “Free Palestine” at library program in MA…

Someone might want to tell them how a drag Queen would be treated over there.

This is so sad. The U.S. has gone full idiocracy and the world is laughing at us.

This is the only reason why since 10/7 there has been constant shaming of anyone voicing their concern for people of Gaza, the suppression of free speech is astounding. It’s almost like the entire U.S population should take a pledge of allegiance to Israel, nothing short of that will satisfy the Ackmans of this world.

You are a Hamas supporter. Just say it. You support terrorists.

The lawyer’s exact words: “what we are seeing in the news this week is nothing compared to what’s been quietly happening for the last few years.”

So, we have antisemitism but what’s the word for Americans supporting Gazans who are being bullied and shamed relentlessly by Zionists??? God forbid if someone opens their mouth to criticize Israel, so are well all supposed to take a pledge of allegiance to Israel? See, money can buy you power but it cannot win public sentiment and in the long run public sentiment is what determines if the powerful remain that way.

I’m wondering if you are capable of stepping back to see the bigger, far more complex picture…or if you are only able to hyperfixate on Gaza?

Literally everyone recognizes the tragic suffering in Gaza. Everyone. Even Israelis.

But the situation pre-October 7 and post-October 7 is far more complex than the overly simplified messaging.

We are dealing with multiple countries sucked into a very serious powder keg: Western values vs Anti-western values.

If you are posting on dcum, you enjoy western values.

What’s unclear is how this will end.

I think the West is hoping to move the needle rather than just maintain status quo.

If you can’t recognize the complexity of the big picture…sigh.

What are these "Western values" of which you speak? Does it include supplying weapons to aid genocide? Does it include rolling back women's rights to accommodate men? Does it include getting rid of abortion rights, killing millions of people since WWII, invading countries for oil? Please, I would love to know about these values you hold so dear.

Oy vey.

Think of it this way: if you live in America and can fritter away your time posting on dcum, then you are enjoying western values.

Similarly, if you are able to leave your house unchaperoned in a tank top with exposed hair…

Or if you don’t need to worry about being stoned or enduring an honor killing or being thrown off a building for who love…

Or if you recognize the rule of law…

Or benefit from capitalism…

Or enjoy public education…

Etc.

Is our democracy perfect? No. But it has the ability to evolve.

If you think life is better under a religious totalitarian regime, then I am not interested in helping you get up to speed.

You have described most of the world, even China and Russia but what you failed to do is to actually give examples of western values. Nice try though.

ICYMI: people can be tossed in jail or “disappeared” … there’s no rule of law.

It’s easier to describe those who don’t accept western values. Hint: religious extremist totalitarian regimes and the sheeple who love that brand of “religion” and (sadly) those who are forced to endure it.

#duh

You just described Israel.
Congratulations for finally seeing the light.

I can understand why you believe that…you’ve accepted the Tik Tok version of “reality.”

It’s like we are living in a bizarro world of #facts concocted by dum-dums.

Go back to your bubble if you can't handle the truth.
Which country has a religious symbol on its flag?
Which country calls itself the Jewish homeland and is ruled by an ultra religious Likud party?
Which country is arresting and assaulting Jews for protesting against the genocide in Gaza?
Which country is committing genocide in Gaza?
Which country is enabling the theft of Palestinian land in the West Bank?

Which countries breed terrorists?

Which religion is most linked with religious extremists who are apt to blow up themselves and others in the name of religion?

Which groups adhere to deeply held beliefs summed up by “Death to Israel, America, and the West”?

Simply put: it’s bananas to fail to recognize the very real threat these groups pose to America, Americans, and our way of life.

This would not be as much of a problem for America if it wasn't for their iron-clad relationship with Israel.

1. If you can’t produce a student ID or proof of being currently enrolled, then you must leave campus or else you will be arrested.

2. Students who don’t disperse will be suspended. No credits will be given for the semester. Whomever pays their tuition will be notified.

3. Any future demonstrations will require a permit and security comparable to how events are handled in DC on the mall, Supreme Court, etc.

4. All universities should immediately require unbiased trainings on critical thinking, how to weed through misinformation, and fact-based summaries of current events that underscore the complexity of the situation. Students must be reminded they are privileged Americans who must adhere to school policies.

Agree 100%. It makes me laugh that one of their demands is receiving "amnesty" from criminal charges. No, Larla, that's not how this works.

5. Students here on student visas who have participated in antisemitic rhetoric or violence or unlawful behavior will lose their visas and be deported.
6. No student who has engaged in unlawful conduct - whether it be US laws or campus rules and regulations will have one penny of their student loans "forgiven."

And, as for your #4 - there is no way we can count on current faculty to conduct this training. Not when they have been participating in this nonsense.

Video of this. I guess if you are a parent who would take your kid to Drag Queen Story Hour, you would condone this type of indoctrination.

Naturally, Texas is the only state that means what it says and does what it means. Good for them.

Right?! These idiot hypocrites are supporting Hamas, a terrorist group that kills gay people and treats women like chattel. Are they aware? Do they care?
