VCU vs JMU

Which one is more safety for a B+ UW student, around 3.5UW and close to 4W, high SAT score (but let's forget that for this purpose), not many ECs. Looking only as safety, with hope something else will come through (VT may be, who knows). Applying to science/engineering.

VCU = safety

Both are good schools to consider. Why not apply to both?

Either are fine. The bigger deciding factor is location: urban vs. much smaller city in a rural region of the state?

If you can swing the fees, why not try both? Two safeties could mean two admits, which is a nice boost if other options are more of a reach. It also gives you more time to get a visit done if needed.

Thanks, will apply both. Mainly fatigue at this point of adding more schools, already have many in the high reach, reach, match, and safety categories, now looking for last 1-2 super safeties. If none of the above applied comes through by December then plan is to apply to more safeties. Parents can swing the fees, this is not a major concern.

JMU doesn't have much in terms of engineering.

Should get into both. DC with 3.9 WGPA and 1350ish SAT got into both.

+1 JMU has an unusual engineering program. Should be clear on the differences.

Don't over think this. It's ridiculous when NoVa parents fret over *which* Virginia college to apply to. See where they get in -- 5-7 applications and the student has essentially appiled to every choice.

Depends on the major. Both fine schools. My DS with a 3.8w and 1200 SAT got into VCU. Didn’t apply to JMU (did not like it at all), but would have been a maybe for him if he had, according to the Naviance scattergrams.

They’re both good schools. We’re lucky to have so many good options in VA.

Shush. Not so loud. You'll invite our jealous neighbors across the river to pick a fight.

Too late - we're already jealous!!

Applying to CS/CIS if that makes a difference, as it appears JMU has better program than VCU. Many local employers hire JMU graduates in cybersecurity, programming jobs. We have applied other OOS safeties as well. SAT is 1480.
