| I'm actually a really healthy eater, but I have a weakness for soda (regular coke, not diet). Pre-pregnancy I'd have maybe 1-2 a week on ice. Total bliss. I'm 13 weeks and I've been sneaking some sips here and there. The other day I had a juice glass of coke. I don't drink coffee but even a few sips gives me a nice boost in the afternoon. Is this awful?! |

You're sweet, OP.
Enjoy your Coke, guilt-free. You have my permission. |
| I wouldn't drink it every day, but it's not significantly worse for you than cookies/cakes/ice cream. Not many people make expectant moms feel like dirt for those indulgences, so don't beat yourself up. |

My GP and OB both told me that Coke really isn't a big deal during pregnancy unless you have gestational diabetes. If you normally consume a lot of caffeine, it's actually a good way to scratch that itch because it's way less caffeine than coffee and the sugar can give you a little kick, too. I have migraines and my OB actually encouraged me to drink a soda if I felt like one might come on, since I had to switch off my normal migraine meds to something less effective during pregnancy.
And late in my pregnancy, having a a glass of Coke with ice helped settle my stomach and made the acid reflux a lot more tolerable. Again, I told my doc and she said it was fine. The bigger issue is making sure you get enough water. But if you are drinking plenty of water, taking your prenatal, and your diet is otherwise solid, I would not worry at all about having a Coke now and then. It's not poison, it's just not *good* for you. But it's okay to have some stuff that isn't good for you. |
| OP here. This makes me so happy. Def still going to stick to my little sips here and there, but I'm glad I don't have to feel like I'm committing a crime every time. |
| No, it isn't poison. Jesus. It's not a health food, and obviously excessive consumption isn't good for you, but it's not going to cause birth defects or premature labor or anything. |
| You know the answer to this, OP. Come on. |
|
Yes, it is, just like the thousand of things we stuff our faces with on a regular basis. |
| I hope you are just being hyperbolic, but please don’t fall into the trap of thinking that perfection is required. If you think that way, you’ll be in for a rude awakening and a lot of unnecessary guilt. |
Lol. You have issues! |
Actually, I don't. Researching this on the internet leads to very conflicting results. That's why I sought some insight from women on this forum. Thanks for the attitude though! |
Have a whole can, OP. Live a little. I NEEDED Pepsi during pregnancy in a way I never wanted it in my regular life. Something about the flavor, fizz, coldness... it was a lifesaver and I had at least a couple a week (I'd say non-pregnant it was more like 2-3 a month). |
This is me! I'm a normal healthy person who doesn't like coffee. Drink soda pretty much every day. It keeps me alert and focused. I especially drink a lot when doing lots of laundry and cleaning. soda is more effective than medication for my menstral cramps. When I feel guilty I follow with lots of water. |
I like cherry coke, dr. Pepper, coke and pepsi. |
| I had 1 per day for most of my pregnancy 4 years ago. It's fine. It's way under the allowed amount of caffeine and way under the amount in a cup of tea or coffee for that matter--both of which are allowed in moderation. |
