Is soda just totally poison?

Actually, I don't. Researching this on the internet leads to very conflicting results. That's why I sought some insight from women on this forum. Thanks for the attitude though!

Well what do you think is going to happen if you drink a little soda? Serious question.

Have a whole can, OP. Live a little. I NEEDED Pepsi during pregnancy in a way I never wanted it in my regular life. Something about the flavor, fizz, coldness... it was a lifesaver and I had at least a couple a week (I'd say non-pregnant it was more like 2-3 a month).

Same. I had one can weekly during pregnancy and in the early postpartum days. I was craving that sugar! I normally never drink soda, but it was a real craving during pregnancy.

I’m not even pregnant right now but this thread is so affirming! I have been shamed seven ways to Sunday for drinking soda, even though my diet is otherwise very healthy and I don’t drink coffee and barely drink alcohol. I am glad I’m not alone. I just have a sweet tooth and like the caffeine kick. I drank soda regularly through my pregnancy and my doctor didn’t bat an eyelash. I actually decided not to use GW midwives specifically because I knew they’d tell me not to and I didn’t want to deal with it.

Not everything you put in your body has to be pure goodness. Life is too short!

It’s just sugar. A can of Coke has about 10 sugar cubes in it. So if you’d eat 10 sugar cubes, feel free to drink a Coke.

I had HG and for the first trimester of all three pregnancies, regular Coke was the only fluid I could keep down. None of my healthcare providers were concerned, and whatever typical issues my kids have, I'd bet money it wasn't because of the Cokes.

^^I'll add that the Cokes were a giveaway that I was pregnant to one of my coworkers, a nurse practitioner, both the first time, when I started drinking them at meetings, and then the second time, when she heard me open a can in our shared office. Have at it, OP--no need to sneak!

It’s terrible for your teeth so just watch it long term

My totally health-nut boyfriend is a competitive runner/ triathlete and has a Coke every day at lunch. It is the only junk food he allows himself. It's fine.

People on this board are nuts. I read it for humor at the end of my long day.

My mom smoked and ate junk food all 3 pregnancies. No one was breast--fed. That was for poor women. I and all the others just like me were born healthy and fine and grew to be successful. Blah blah blah.

Don't go off the deep end. Your baby will appreciate that she/he has a happy mama.

She probably has an occasional drink too! The breastfeeding pressure especially kills me. Most of our generation was formula fed and the formula then wasn’t nearly as advanced as it is today. Yet people practically act like you’re a child abuser if you supplement.

It’s totally fine! I don’t keep it in the house but occasionally grab a Mexican coke or Throwback Pepsi with lunch. Even while pregnant. I’m not a big fan of sweets (otherwise I craved salt with my pregnancies) but I love that stuff.

Well yeah it is just poison. It’s certainly harming your body more than it’s helping it. But not as bad as smoking. I wouldn’t feel guilty over a sip a week. Wouldn't have more though.
