We just received a quote to transport our family minivan from DC to Arizona. Is this a good price?

$1200 is what we were just quoted.
I really do not feel like driving all the way to Arizona with 2 young children.

Depends. If that is on an open carrier it is an OK price. If it in enclosed, then it is a very good price. Bear in mind, this is peak season to come to AZ so you're going to pay more than if you were trying to transport your car here in the summer.

I believe it is an open carrier.

Including gas or you pay gas on top?
Do you get to fill the van up with any cargo?

It's 2400 miles / 35-40 hours of driving time. I'd say yes, worth it, especially if gas is covered and you can send some things along inside.

Not sure. I will have to ask.

We just paid $900 to ship a car to Texas plus surcharges brought it to $1100

If it's in an open carrier, why would you need to pay for gas? It wouldn't be driven.

That's consistent with quotes I've gotten.

Why would they need to charge for gas?

It’s a fair price. Just don’t pack anything of value inside.

I packed a few things in my cars when I had them shipped and it was fine. Nothing of value but I had some towels and blankets etc in there. That price sounds fair. And no they don’t charge for gas. It goes on one of those trucks that has multiple cars on it.

Yes. We just did this. Where are you moving? We also packed 2 suitcases in the trunk and they did it care at all.

PP with gas comment. It wasn't clear to me whether it would be via car carrier or just get driven, hence the gas question.
But it goes on a carrier (so gas covered) and you can send things in the car, I'd say it's totally worth it. Assuming of course that the car isn't a total piece of junk.

That's less than I paid when I moved to Arizona 2 years ago. BTW, welcome to AZ!

Hire a courier for $500, include enough cash for gas and 2 nights lodging, and return plane ticket for the driver on Southwest.

$1,000, tops. Plus it gets delivered exactly when and where you want it.

Shipping a car is always a PITA. I’ve always used a courier.
