Ok humor me here. I haven’t bought a new car in several years.
Looking at a Honda Odyssey. I requested pricing online and the dealers have responded with exactly the same price, right down to the penny. Clearly they’re all in it together. How much lower can I expect to negotiate, if it all? |
| Negotiate. Email every dealer around and ask. I emailed maybe 20 dealers in MD/DC/VA and a bit further out. I went on message boards for my vehicle and they said the best price. |

Anything is possible. Depends on the popularity of the car. If they selling hot why would they sell you cheap. Just stalk the car inventories and e-mail the dealers. When you get to an agreed OTD price then go in and sign the papers.
Only once did they renew on my deal and it was at Kay Jennings Springfield Toyota. Wasted 30 mins and then left. But I still got my car the next week somewhere else. This was like 4 hrs ago when I last bought a car. |

It's hard to negotiate on high-demand cars like that right now.
In general, if you want to get lower than the internet price, you need to go into the dealership with a set price that you want to pay, and be willing to walk out if they say no. They may or may not call you back if they need the business. |
| Yes. Your experience with the email blast is common. It’s a waste of time. Just find the car you want, go in, and negotiate a better deal. Be prepared to walk out, but they won’t let that happen. A sale is a sale. |
| The e-mail is to get you to come in. Are you a good negotiator and can stand your ground? Right now it may possible to get a good deal on 2020 models. Sometimes, a large dealer just wants to move some cars off their lot so you may luck out without even knowing it. |
Go to OdyClub.com and look for their 2021 prices paid spreadsheet. It’s nationwide but will give you a good idea. If you are willing to drive, the best prices around here I found were at Joyce Koons in Manassas. |

We didn’t have luck with this, but I did have luck having accessories added on for free.
Dealership met the lowest online price I had by $1, but threw in those (manufacturer brand) WeatherTec liners, a cargo package, and upgraded emblems for free. I had it all installed about a week later when it came in. |
| Yes, it is definitely possible. I am always able to get prices much lower than the internet sale price which is for suckers and means nothing. |
But can you get below vroom or carvana prices? I thought those were pretty low already? |

I got $2000 off the "internet" price due to these incentives:
*Discount for teachers (even though I'm not a teacher, but work in a school - I told them this because it's easily found on Google and they didn't care: *Costco incentive |
You have to call around to multiple dealers. If you want a specific one off the lot, usually no. |

| The internet price is the lazy, timid shoppers price. Go in armed with info, with $$ in your hand and you will always save big $$ over the internet price. Car feeling has not changed in decades. I’m a former new car salesman btw... |
