Columbia Fall Classic Cancelled for some

Boys from VA are not permitted to play this weekend and to top it off only partial refund only while the tournament continues for the other boys. Good times.

And? The teams signed the agreements and knew the risks. There are costs to run these tournaments.

Well, OP. If it is any consolation, I wish it had been canceled for Maryland teams too. I considered pulling my son.

There is so much COVID circulating out there. I took my daughter to get a test today, just because she's done with soccer now and I wanted to make sure she's not an asymptomatic carrier. The line was huge.

if your team paid via credit card - dispute the charges

They’ve learned from Loudoun $occer. Get with the program.

That is preposterous. There is no rational basis for barring teams from lower risk areas. That is pure breach.

My club is filing lawsuit.

Why can’t they play? Who says?

Who decided only MD teams?

State or local officials or tournament organizers?

Is this true for all MD tournaments or just this one?

Not true at this time. The decisions are being made by county leadership. In the case of this tournament, the decision was made by leaders in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties.

I heard this was a compromise. They were going to shut the whole thing down.

Funny, I was saying that to my husband last night. I could see evidence of that compromise in the stern messages from the tournament organizer about masking and other rules. It is a disaster for tournament organizers to cancel the whole thing, so I understand why they wanted to do as much as they could.

If people want to be mad at anyone, be mad at Maryland's leadership who prioritized putting positive spin on how the pandemic was being managed here rather than conveying complete factual information about Maryland' rising metrics throughout October. Perhaps it that would have happened, we wouldn't be in this situation now.

Yeah, we enjoyed still randomly getting those stern messages after we were told we could not participate because we were from lower-COVID-rate NOVA, and then told that we were not getting a full refund. At this point, we DGAF and don't want the messages about a tournament you kicked us out of.

Wait until it starts, then call in complaints to the county about unmasked spectators?
