Why has IVF failed twice?

Anonymous
Second IVF embryo transfer failure. Embryos tested and all are healthy. What could be the reason?

So many things. Unfortunately IVF is a crapshoot even with tested embryos. What clinic are you at?

Shady Grove, I'm 34, eggs are 33.

Could be just bad luck, but if I were you I would do RPL testing (including an endometrial biopsy) before another transfer. RPL can cause early losses and implantation failure. I learned that the hard way.

I'm sorry this has happened, it's so hard!

Here are some ideas:
1. You could do an ERA and see if maybe you need longer or shorter time on progesterone.
2. How are your thyroid numbers?
3. You could also try prednisone. Maybe not ideal during a pandemic (it suppresses your immune system) but worth considering if you're open to it.

I've known plenty of people that IVF, multiple rounds didn't work at all unfortunately

I have been in your shoes. No “good “reason why it doesn’t work when everything seems perfect on paper. Sometimes I think you’re just not on the right side of the statistic, as unfair as that is. I had success with second retrieval / third transfer. Wishing you luck.

The right egg has to meet the right sperm and land in the right place. We can control a lot, but so much of this is way out of anyone’s control, even with a sophisticated procedure such as IVF.

OP, I was in the same boat: Shady Grove, thirty-three year old eggs, and the first two FETs failed without explanation. But the third and fourth FETs worked without any issues. Wishing you luck, health, and happiness on this often-demoralizing journey.

OP, I have a similar story. 34 yo eggs, PGS tested. 1st FET at SGF resulted in a miscarriage. 2nd FET failed. 3rd FET led to my son. Didn’t change anything between my three transfers. My RE said there’s only 60% chance of success, even with PGS tested embryos. Went to have my second baby and the 1st FET worked. I understand wanting to try something different; I felt the same way. But sometimes you just need to stay the course, as frustrating as that is. Good luck!!

I'm sorry. Ive been in your shoes more times than I care to say and it's not fun. Have you tried an ERA, receptiva, and immunology?

I had two failed FETs, did and ERA which showed the timing was in fact correct. Third transfer worked and am currently 17 weeks. I didnt want to believe my doctor when he would tell me that "sometimes they just dont work" but I suppose he was correct.

Do you have a lot of embryos to keep trying? If so, I heard that it can take multiple tries for it to implant. Dh and I could only get 1 and sometimes no blasts from our cycles and they could never find a reason.

Sometimes it can just be a matter of chance, OP. But I would ask your doctor about doing ERA before attempt further transfers.

One other thing, OP. How are your Vitamin D levels? I would try to get some sun for 15 min/day. Also, I know this process is VERY stressful, try to take care of yourself to relieve the pressure.
