I have an almost four year old and I’m thinking of how to make snacks healthier. Any good go tos, maybe with vegetables?
Tried carrots but he prefers vegetables cooked I think. It would be nice to add some variety as he and I eat 2 snacks a day together. Sample snacks he has now: -pita crackers or goldfish with cheddar and fruit -Whole yogurt or kefir with fruit and grain free granola -wheat toast with pb, hemp hearts, honey |

cooked and cooled carrots sliced with cucumber & hummus
cheese cubes, cut grapes & apple slices boiled egg slices, whole wheat toast & sliced cheese ( he can assemble his own sandwich egg salad roll ups - can use cottage cheese instead of mayo |
| Following. We do similar snacks but really struggle with veggies for our 3 year old. She gets them every day but rarely eats them even though her dad and I love them and eat them in front of her. Would love any ideas for veggie snacks that other kids this age enjoy. |
| My kids liked a baked sweet potato that I would slice. They would eat the pieces like cookies. |

You need to experiment with "dippy". My DD REALLY got into raw veggies when I introduced a tiny dipping dish of "dippy" aka ranch dressing. Once I did that she loved raw carrots, cucumber, string beans, etc.
Since your kid is so young he still needs healthy fats - avocado toast. |

Ants on a log
Pb and banana or apple Roasted chickpeas Homemade zucchini bread (I do while wheat and cut the sugar way down) or apple walnut muffins I’ve also made a pretty good pumpkin yogurt dip that’s great with apples and pretzels |

Yes, I came here to recommend avocado! I have a 4yo who is a reasonably adventurous eater, but veggies can be hit or miss. Avocado toast is always a hit. Also steamed edamame, raw cucumbers, carrots and peppers dipped in chili crunch. Roasted sweet potatoes. Homemade pico de gallo is also usually a hit, with wholegrain chips it's reasonably healthy. Freshly cracked pepper on everything!
This kid seems to like a bit of spice, sometimes it's the blandness of veggie preparations that could be the problem. |
| Honestly, we're vegetarians and don't give veggies as snacks. It's really hard to make them taste good raw. I just make sure they get veggies in their main meals, and do things like apple and peanut butter, nuts, fruit, crackers and cheese, etc. |

Do you eat meat? I make a big batch of meatballs and freeze for snacks through the week. I keep Epic brand jerky around for on the go protein snacks.
Frozen peas are a fun snack- kids love them frozen! We do a lot of fresh sugar snap peas and hummus. For a fun treat we do frozen banana slices with unsweetened coconut flakes. |

We probably just got lucky, but our kids eat raw veggies straight up:
- baby carrots - cucumbers - peppers - cherry tomatoes - broccoli They also eat slices apples or bananas. |
| You can make a smoothie, muffins, cold candies, protein bites, nut bars, etc. |
I'm not sure if you want to cook but you can do healthy no bake bites filled with lots of good healthy fats, smoothies with healthy fats, cold candies ( yogurt + fruit blended and frozen in dollops), homemade protein bars, etc. |
You can make healthy muffins with spinach and veggies, egg bites, Lara bars, etc. |

Apple slices & PB (add little pretzel sticks too if you want)
Banana & PB Vegetables, crackers (or pretzel sticks), hummus Vegetables, crackers, cream cheese Turkey pepperoni stick & whatever combo of crackers/fruit or vegetable |

cold roasted chicken
hard boiled eggs and a fruit. my son also liked corn and black beans mixed. You could put them on a carb smart tortilla with a bit of cheese and cut them into slices. |
