Robert White is endorsed by Washington Teachers Union, and has supported WTU's efforts to obstruct DCPS reopening. White has even obstructed DCPS's plan to send back a portion of special needs, homeless, and other at risk elementary school children. As the parent of SN kids, I'm disgusted by his actions to obstruct kids getting access to education, as distance learning isn't working for many of them and the gap is widening. He supports WTU's demands that teachers be allowed to refuse to go back in person without any reason. At this rate, not only will DCPS not have enough teachers to even reopen for a portion of homeless, special needs, and other at risk children, but this precludes reopening for any students during the pandemic.
If you want schools to open at all, even for the most vulnerable DC children, then please don't vote for Robert White. |
That may all be true, but he's going to easily win reelection. The other at-large spot will be filled by someone who gets very few votes. More people will vote *against* this person than for this person, yet they still will land a spot on the Council. It's a profoundly stupid system. |
OP here. I agree with you. Unfortunately he'll probably win, but I have to try something as my kids are falling further behind and desperately need their in-person spots to actually happen. |
| I did not know this—OP, do you have links? |
Yep and it only exists as a form of affirmative action for conservatives. Congress wrote these rules. |
And it's affirmative action for conservatives that does not actually put any conservatives on the Council. So it isn't working as intended, anyway. We need ranked-choice voting. |
| Robert White will be Mayor in 2022 |
| I specifically voted against the WTU endorsed candidates for this very reason. |
| Based on the city council hearing last week, it seems like most of them, not just Robert White, are unimpressed with DCPS’s process and plans to reopen. |
| I found it funny that in California, the Governors kids are at an in-person private school. Wonder about White's kids? |
| I voted for "Chris Martin" |
| He got the Coldplay vote LOL. In all seriousness, he seemed reasonable. There was one other I kind of liked, but a little too millenial. I'm just so tired of the leaps of logic they make. maybe when he has matured a little. |
They attend his Ward 4 in-boundary school. |
I think his youngest might still be in daycare, based on age, but his older girl definitely goes to public school. My kid went to daycare with his kids for a while, and it's basically the cheapest daycare around. |
| So vote for Robert White if I want someone who is interested in the health and safety of students and teachers and will follow the guidance of public health experts. Got it. |
