Do you let your kids eat all of the Halloween candy at one time? Or give it out little by little?

Just wondering. As a kid I was allowed to eat all of my candy at once and have been letting my 4 year old and almost 2 year old do the same. But I'm seeing other moms limit it to a few pieces. Is there anyone else out there that lets there kids have a free for all? Not judging the other way of doing it, just wondering if I am in the small minority or if it is evenly split.

I do, but my kids don’t eat it all in one sitting anyway. One kid didn’t touch it yesterday, the other ate may be 3-4 candies.

Ours get to pick 15 pieces to keep and the rest is given away. They have fun trading it with each other and deciding what to keep. They are 7 and 5 now. Because it’s always been this way, they don’t get upset that the can’t keep it all. They usually each a few pieces each day for a few days and then forget about it and I have to throw the rest out. They are normal kids who are huge fans of candy.

Let them binge - let them have fun and learn to self limit. A pediatrician friend told me it’s better from a blood sugar perspective to have one big spike than lots of smaller ones over days or weeks.

We always let them binge on Halloween night, especially when it’s on a weekend like this year. Then I gather the bags and let them pick out a piece or two for dessert or a snack throughout the week. That usually lasts for about a month then they forget about the candy and I throw the rest away. Or DH smuggles it to work!

My son eats as much as he wants, the puts it away. He’ll eat it sporadically for a day or two before forgetting about it. The only time I intervene is if he’s getting it out before another meal...like breakfast

My mom let us eat our candy however we wanted. It takes about one time of eating yourself sick to learn that it's no fun.

With my kid, we let her eat a bunch on Halloween, and then after that, she gets one piece a day until it's gone. So, kind of a split -- she gets one binge (although she never wants to eat more than a handful of candies at once) and then the rest is more controlled.

I'm very flexible on Halloween and let the kids have what they want. We are more strict after Halloween and only allow a few pieces a day. After about a week it's normally forgotten about.

I used to do a little at a time with 11yo dc but, then it lasts around the house until Easter! I have converted to eat as much as you want day of Halloween and we give the rest away.

Where can I give away Halloween candy? Individually packed in bags.

We no longer let our kids eat as much as they want because the one time we did, they all threw up at night in their beds.

This is us too. I've also heard from dentists that it's better to rot the teeth once than lots of times.

A little on Halloween and a couple pieces after each meal. And I take a cut!

It term of developing discipline, it doesn't matter. I'm close with adults who I knew as children. We spent our childhood treat or treating together ... some were disciplined eating 1 piece of candy a day, which made their stash last for months. Some were allowed as much as that wanted. Decades later, there is no adult correlation re: discipline.

They can pick out 5 pieces, either eat it that night or spread it out. The rest is removed from the house.
