APS hybrid/virtual split

Anonymous
From today's Friday at 5:

52% chose hybrid
42% chose all virtual
6% (no selection - default to hybrid)

Of those who made a switch from the July choice, significantly more dropped hybrid in favor of virtual, rather than the other way around. Roughly twice as many chose virtual now versus July.

Thoughts? Implications?

It’s because they made hybrid sound so miserable, lots of people decided against it.
I think this was intentional.

For me it’s so much more difficult to arrange for care a couple days a week than just dealing with DL. the rolling drop off and no extended day make this a nightmare for almost all parents.

Plus kids in different grades going on different days— not useful from the childcare aspect for many families.

Exactly. It’s going to work out ok for me only because I work with the same grade level as my own child.

Surprised at the high percentage of virtual too. I wonder what the grade levels splits are (ie. younger elementary compared to older). Hoping this will make it easier for the hybrid kids to return.

I am also interested in the split re academic advancement, behavior, etc.

There are some teachers who told parents interested in aligning with them to choose virtual for the best chance, true or not.

What’s your source on that?

Fascinating. 20% of families changes their choice and 85% of those changing switches to virtual. Would love to see the data by grade level and school!

At my school the younger grades skewed more towards hybrid.

I'm curious how much the timing of this had to do with choices. Right as case rates are rising again. Right before holidays and people may be wanting to quarantine to see family. It's not great timing in general to try to get hybrid started.

I think this as well.

We only chose hybrid because there is almost no chance of it happening anytime soon and wanted to allow for the potential of hybrid if it ever rolls out in the spring. That's at least if APS sticks to the metrics it had listed when the survey was out. If they change their position from the metrics stated at the time of the survey, well then we may too.

My thinking was exact same.

The metrics will be difficult to achieve. And if they change the metrics, a whole lot of people will rightly say they want to change their choice.
