APS and new email on metrics

What is going to happen? Will kindergarten be starting in person hybrid soon? Or do you think they are laying the foundation to delay?
Anonymous
I feel like the foundation is being laid to delay.

It would have made more sense to start hybrid/virtual in September, or after the holidays.

Starting mid-fall never made sense. I'm guessing Jan/Feb at the earliest.

I am wondering if/when classes will be adjusted.

What did the email say? Wondering as an FCPS parent bracing for impact.

Think OP is referring to this one ...

Dear APS Families,

I want to take this opportunity to update you on our Return-to-School Plan and next steps. I have received many questions from staff and families regarding how we are using the APS COVID-19 Dashboard to assess our readiness to reopen.

We use the dashboard to analyze risk and to help assess our readiness to open. Based on my review of the data and in consultation with Public Health, the current health and operational conditions allow for us to provide in-person learning support for Level 1 students with disabilities, beginning on November 4. My decision to proceed is based on the health and safety data; my confidence in our preparations for Level 1; mitigation measures in place to protect employee and student health and safety; and the urgency of serving our highest-need students who are currently struggling to access their education.

They are pushing through with Level 1 start next week even though the incident rate is higher than the metric stated. They are reevaluating the start date for Level two and will bring K-2 back before 3-5.

Here is the school talk I think OP is referring to:
https://www.apsva.us/post/70534/

It says metrics aren't there for Level 1 (kids with severe disabilities), but they are going forward anyways because they are close enough. He put the breaks on Level 2 (PK-5), and pushed Pk-K to "early December" (originally Nov 10th), and 1st-2nd to January (originally Nov 10th), 3rd-5th to sometime after that, and everyone else to some time after that.

Can I just say that I really did not appreciate APS burying the lead on this? I read the body of the email and thought that was generally the message and all there was. It wasn't until ARLNOW reported on the shifting metrics that it became clear that you needed to know to click through to a link and read the rest of the update on the APS website. What is with that??? Why not just put all of the relevant information in an email, or, explicitly indicate that there is additional information to be obtained by clicking/reading on the APS website?

I agree. I did not realize that the date had been pushed back for PK-K. I just read it as the metrics have not yet been met; I did not realize there had in fact been a determination to change the date to December.

Just so we're clear, this doesn't actually say early December (unless I am losing my mind which is always possible): it says they will make a final call on whether or not it's November 12 for PK-2 next week.

Yes, Feb/March 2020 was a great time virus wise.
