College coaches recruit the top players no matter where they are. Period! They know who these players are well in advance. They follow and watch the specific players, not the team.

Not really. Top, top players they’ll maybe follow. But girls college soccer teams don’t have resources to travel around and follow girls. That is why they all go to big showcases. Way more bang for their buck. And most of the players are recruited by reaching out to coaches who will be at those showcases.

They are not there for the team at any showcases, but for the specific player/s - often with conversations happening with club coaches before and after the showcase about the particular player/s.

My thoughts too

Seriously. It’s that short sighted thinking of tailoring an entire youth system to the extremely few elite players that got them in this pickle to start with. Youth soccer on a whole is huge, and the leagues want something that is uniform across the board to get the most youth players playing soccer for MONEY. Thats it. So they’re going to go with what’s best to meet that goal.

Back to SY. Only question is 8/1 or 9/1. For everyone, except MLSN and possibly GA. All the noise here is wishful thinking or trolling.

Agree. It’s def going to be a school or “seasonal” year cutoff. The nuance, if any, will be laid out soon enough.

Hopefully they allow an 'overlap window' instead of hard cutoff because every jurisdiction has different school year cutoffs. If the point is to eliminate trapped players, then the 'overlap window' would be a sort of baked in waiver system for players that fall within a 2-3 month window.

+ 60 = overlap window. We’re well on our way to 1000

Nobody thinks colleges coaches are trying to recruit entire youth teams. Don't know why you think that.

lol. You do know what the focus of ECNL is, right? The words ‘elite’ and ‘national’ are actually right in the title.

I love this whole thought process that college recruiters don't know how to figure out a kid's graduation year

Or that recruiters don't have existing networks to identify top players who haven't already reached out to them.

People really think college coaches are going to tournaments hoping to find last minute diamonds no one knew about.

Looks like +60 bot has AI capabilities—it has learned that the +60 concept is a loser and so is implementing a rebranding strategy.

The goal is not to eliminate trap players just to greatly reduce them. Got listen to the previous podcast with US Club Siccer where this is discussed.

It's getting shot down, however, I could see this. NL, in this case, not being what NL currently is. For example, we'll see the formation of a new girls super league of the best GA and ECNL yeams where it's BY and no HS (basically the ECNL 10-month program, for instance).

Most of ECNL, the part focused on college and trapped players, will essentially be considered regional.

ECNL definitely changing age groups up. GA/MLSN are most likely staying BY.

ECNL and all of US Club will goto a 9/1 cut off.

If GA gets rid of high school that will be a death sentence. The majority of girls want to play with their high school teams.

Unless the ECNL teams with 10-month programs join them

You seem to have a vested interest in BY. SY will change things as kids will look different playing with/against players older/younger on "teams" in league and showcase games. Different positions, less or more dominant. It's ok, the world will move on. Then you you can boomer argue that the olden days were so much better.

Many on here seem to have an incorrect understanding about college recruitment and scouts that show up at showcases.
Just like many posts here reveal that there is zero understanding about competitive teams and players and what the priorities are for leagues to stay on top. It’s very far from most of what is discussed on here.

SY seems to benefit more kids than BY, but have we seen improvements in the national team since the switch? I’m asking because I do not know.

There are a few players already on the team who spent the majority of their youth using birth year. Anyhow For the next 6 to 8 years from this point on our results will determine school year success or not.
