ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Someone in the other thread (and others apparently echoing) ... "NL will be BY. RL and lower will be SY."
It's getting shot down, however, I could see this. NL, in this case, not being what NL currently is. For example, we'll see the formation of a new girls super league of the best GA and ECNL yeams where it's BY and no HS (basically the ECNL 10-month program, for instance). Most of ECNL, the part focused on college and trapped players, will essentially be considered regional. |

Honestly I heard something similar from the very definition of the grapevine. Another parent who heard from another coach “age changes? The top teams aren’t doing that.” |

Top teams in what league?
The point was to align top teams with school year for recruiting. So I doubt this is a true grapevine rumor. |

What seems like might happen is kids who don't play HS will stay BY and on YNT/pro tracks for boy and now more increasingly girls. College will be less of thing for both genders for the highest levels of soccer. It what they wanted with the DA programs. We'll basically see that system re-formed with the pay-2-pay ECNLs of the world act as feeders. They still will be high levels of play and still have "national" tournaments and serve the college system BUT won't be the TOP of the pyramid. Girls youth super league here we come! |

Seriously. It’s that short sighted thinking of tailoring an entire youth system to the extremely few elite players that got them in this pickle to start with. Youth soccer on a whole is huge, and the leagues want something that is uniform across the board to get the most youth players playing soccer for MONEY. Thats it. So they’re going to go with what’s best to meet that goal. |

Back to SY. Only question is 8/1 or 9/1. For everyone, except MLSN and possibly GA. All the noise here is wishful thinking or trolling. |

Agree. It’s def going to be a school or “seasonal” year cutoff. The nuance, if any, will be laid out soon enough. |

lol. You do know what the focus of ECNL is, right? The words ‘elite’ and ‘national’ are actually right in the title. |

College coaches recruit the top players no matter where they are. Period! They know who these players are well in advance. They follow and watch the specific players, not the team. |
