Graphic evidence of why schools in DC should be open

https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/10/23/pandemic-data-chart-masks/

Take a look at the first graph in this article and tell me again why DC schools shouldn't have been the first schools in the entire country to open.

It shows 3 things powerfully:
(1) More people in DC wear masks here than anywhere else in the country -- almost certainly that is also indicative that people here are taking other sensible precautions;
(2) Fewer people in DC have COVID than anywhere else in the country;
(3) Wearing masks -- along w/ the other sensible precautions you are probably taking because you wear a mask -- massively decreases your community's COVID rate.
The end.

Mask help, they are not a fix.

It’s no use. WTU is bound and determined to turn this into a power grab, and has manipulated gullible parents into believing its about safety. Meanwhile kids who can afford private have been back in school all along. Ho hum.

What is the point of harping on this. It’s not happening. It’s obvious. But please continue to post new threads on an anonymous forum that does not dictate policy. Thanks for continuing the echo chamber feel here

Not OP, but I will continue to post all the research on school reopening safety.

You cannot compare DCPS to small privates.

Fauci said that a masked environment is equivalent to a vaccinated environment, in terms of protection.

well let’s compare it to NYC then ... (but I disagree about privates — they aren’t doing anything unattainable; they just had a clear mission from early summer on to reopen.)

Or maybe that’s evidence that the DC government knows what they are doing. Seems like the states to criticize there are on the top left.

Actually, most states on the far right (MA, RI, NY) have at least partially open schools. DC is a big outlier in this regard.

DC IS partially opening schools.

I'm sure that's how they are spinning it, but they are not offering hybrid, they are offering in-person classes to a small percentage of kids. Most kids in DC will not even have the option of in-person instruction under their plan.

Sorry, most states on the far right are partially open already w/ an option for any kid who wants it to be back in school at least part time. That is VERY different than 8-11 kids out of 20-100 kids (+ self-contained kids) will be cherry picked for in person school at each school individually and everyone else will be left behind to different/bigger classes with possibly a different teacher.

DCPS just sent an email out to staff saying they looked again at the hybrid plan and decided that kids would get less instruction if they implemented it.

How can that possibly be true? People are wearing various kinds of masks, with varying degrees of care. Plus not everyone removes and puts on masks correctly.

If Fauci really said that, I am surprised.
