Every naturally thin person I know eats slowly. My best friend is very thin and is such a slow eater, but she doesn’t do the “diet tricks” like putting your fork down or sipping between bites. What is your trick to slowing down your eating?
My sister does this. Drives me crazy to eat with her.
Eating really fast and getting full.
I add hot sauce or Tabasco sauce to a lot of my food. The heat forces me to slow down (I’m naturally a very fast eater). But I like spice. I wouldn’t recommend this to someone who doesn’t.
This isn't really a secret, but I'm generally not super-excited by the food and I don't enjoy eating all that much. I mean, most food is fine, but if I could get everything I needed in a pill, I'd probably do that so I could spend my time doing more interesting things. I wonder sometimes if I'm the opposite of a super-taster. There are things I like more than others, but don't have really strong preferences around food. You can serve me pretty much whatever and it's ok with me.
Just talk a lot, good conversations, etc. You can't talk with your mouth fall so...
I don't have any secret. However I have noticed since doing IF, I can't eat as much and overeating is physically uncomfortable. So now I purposely eat slowly just so I can make sure I'm not eating past the point of satiety.
My 5 year old eats slowly by talking, singing, and getting out of her chair to dance and show us toys. She also takes at least one potty break. With these techniques she is able to stretch eating 3 bites of dinner to an hour.
Lol, I needed that!
I talk way too much. I’m always the last one eating. When I eat alone, sometimes I read and that slows me down even more.
She's onto something. I'd be a lot thinner if every meal was also a workout. |
I was thinking about this thread tonight as I was eating dinner, why do you think there is an impulse to eat quickly? My dad and I definitely have it. I didn’t grow up in a food insecure household or fight with a sibling for food.
I have worked to be a more mindful eater because in the past I have eaten so fast that I often overate to the point of feeling sick without even realizing it. I try to take bites and really notice what the food tastes like, what the consistently is, etc. Just being more aware has made me slow down and I'm a lot more in touch with my hunger/fullness cues now.
