| Is Maret considered a progressive school? Looking at Maret and from the website, we can tell it prioritizes the social and emotional growth and education of students but curious how integrated the curriculum is and how much input students have in their own learning. |
| I don’t think there is a lot of in put in course selection until mid HS. Not sure if that’s what you mean by input in learning. I don’t know if it’s truly progressive in the way you are picturing. |
| Terrific school. Maybe one of the best in DC. |
| It’s not considered a progressive school technically. I’ve heard it described as a blend of traditional and progressive. however they implement a lot of progressive elements into their teaching, far more than some progressive schools do. Great school, just small. |
|
Great school, progressive leaning with traditional structure. Challenge is size (smaller than big 3), lack
Of socioeconomic diversity, and homogeneity of perspective. |
Homogeneous is the best description. |
| Maret parent here. School is NOT homogenous at all! Very diverse, actually. Look at the official stats. It’s a wonderful school, and a great community. Highly recommend. |
+1. Also a Maret parent and the school is definitely not homogeneous. We considered the diversity a major selling point when we toured all the top schools around here. Plus it’s a lovely, warm, friendly community. |
| Better now with a change in leadership in the Middle School. |
| It’s always a mess inside though. Should be in better shape. |
| Depends what you mean by Progressive. In terms of politics, it’s sorta progressive, though more DNC-style Clinton-Uber-Alles liberalism (hardly surprising given HoS’s brother). If you mean progressive in an educational sense, well, is “students sitting in the standard classroom layout of desks in a grid pattern while teacher delivers lecture” your idea of progressive? Because that’s what a large majority of the instruction looks like. |
+1. We're a new maret family, and I am not white. I don't feel like I stick out. |
| Current Maret family. Definitely agree the school is racially diverse but also agree with the earlier statement that this does not apply to socioeconomic diversity. It is what it is but as a smaller private school its business model is not able to support the same breadth of economic range as other schools in our region of the same caliber. |
Or learning styles. There is a model Maret child and they don’t stray too far so be careful that you fit. |
Can you tell us about the model Maret child. We are applying but wonder about fit. |
