What is “above average grooming and hygiene “?

Anonymous
I take a shower once a day, brush and floss my teeth twice a day.
I also tweeze my eyebrows and trim the hairs as needed.
I wear my hair in natural waves and don’t style it. I don’t usually wear makeup.

What should I do to be above average?

Wear makeup

Hair maintenance - blowouts, color, gloss, keratin treatments
3 dental cleanings a year
Bikini wax
Shave daily
Weekly manicures and monthly pedicures

Obsessively scrubbing one's shins, according to this board.

Why is this important to you? It sounds like you have good hygiene but don't spend a ton of time on your looks, which is fine. Makeup and hair are really something you do for yourself, unless you have or want an extremely shallow partner, or work in a field where a certain presentation is expected. Otherwise, people don't really care that much.

I think I have above average grooming and hygiene.

Oil massage and shower every day. Lotion and skin treatments daily. Organic home made body scrub once a week.
Hair color and highlight every three weeks. Gloss and hair mask or treatment every week. Haircut every three week. Hair styled every day.
Microdermabrasion - once a week
Full body sugaring as needed. - once in two weeks
Pedicure once a week. Hot wax treatment for hands, feet, elbow and knees - every week
Facial and manicure - once a week. I do not keep long nails or fake nails. My nails are cut short and my nail polish is a very light nude polish. I give myself hot wax treatment.
Dental - Cleaning twice a year. Brush, water pik, gargle - twice a day. Oil pulling - once daily.

At 55, I have flawless skin and great hair. I take around 1-2 hours on a weekend night to take care of hair, wax, facial, mani-pedi, microdermabrasion and hot wax treatment. I have been doing this since my 20s. I do all my treatments at home and I also make many of my lotions, treatments and my wax at home. I also have been cutting my short pixie cut hair at home since the pandemic.

I don't have a problem when women get professional treatments like Botox or fillers etc. I have never tried it mainly because of cost and time. The one time slot that works for me is when the household has winded down at night and I can do everything that I need to do for myself in 1-2 hours. I cannot imagine doing everything that I need to get done at a commercial salon in the middle of the day without inconveniencing my family. It helps that I have experience and some training to do all of these treatments on my own.

I don't even know what this means. What is "above average?" Do you mean high maintenance? Or are you simply asking what you need to do that's more than the average person is doing?

That's...a lot. I also don't understand how you don't have time for a 20 minute Botox appointment every few months but you have time for homemade body scrubs, weekly hot wax treatment, manis/pedis, and microdermabraision, and hair appointments every three weeks. You spend a LOT of time on your appearance. I'm guessing there isn't much else going on?

Yes. I have a home machine that I love. I use it on my face, neck, chest. I do one area every week, so it has time to recover. You can choose the strength that you want by using the home machine.
No, I do not go to a salon for this. After the treatment it soaks up any lotion, serum etc that you put on your face. You can completely skip using makeup if you want. Oh, also it goes without saying but protect yourself from sun, I only expose myself to morning or evening sun.

+1.

I am the PP who mentioned in the thread about being well put together. If you aren't wearing makeup and styling your hair, your grooming habits are definitely not above average.

Could your teeth benefit from whitening? Do you have any skin issues that should be addressed? What do you wear on a typical day? Do you wear jewelry or accessories? Do you wear fragrance?

Carving out 1-2 hours per week for self-care sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I don't make my own skincare products. However, I'm doing much of what was mentioned here. I just started using Retin A micro, so I'm not exfoliating. But before the Retin A, I was doing weekly mandelic acid or salicylic acid peels. I want to have flawless skin at 55, and beyond.

Most of this isn't about hygiene. This is just high maintenance.
