Thread title refers to “above average grooming and hygiene.” |
It did ask about "above average" grooming, right? I think attractive women want to remain attractive even as they age? Hmm...lets see. I am a working woman, two kids in HS doing DL, 1 elderly IL that needs some care, 1 DH who has a long workday, 3 meals a day for 5 people, (no cleaning lady because COVID), cleaning the house, tending to the yard, grocery shopping, laundry, volunteer work and several hobbies..so I guess I am as average as any other woman here in terms of busy-ness. I am able to get a lot done for myself because I took aesthetician training as a teen. It was my mom's idea to keep me busy during pne summer. I have been giving all the treatments to myself and my teen DD at home. I have a nice set up at home and I have a process that I have honed over years. I am not going for any appointments anywhere. No driving to a place, no waiting, no nothing. My weekly nighttime routine takes 1-2 hours and it does not interfere with anything that my family needs. I haven't needed botox yet. Not one wrinkle or frown. But, who knows if I will ever want to get it done? The fear of putting something toxic in my body, the cost and the inconvenience all of these things will make me think twice. Besides, I am used to my inexpensive full-salon home treatments. I am curious as to why you were being so bitchy? What triggered you? |
I imagine she probably looks very haggard, and makes excuses for allowing this to happen to herself. Sad. |
Hygiene and grooming. Also - Above Average. Since I do these things at home and at a very low cost, I do not feel this is high maintenance for me. I have friends who get their hair colored, highlighted, get hair extensions and get mani-pedi and nails done at a salon and I find that a huge committment of time and money. Of course, it may be because I have always done my own color/highlight/lowlight from box colors at home and I have never had acrylic nails or art work on nails done. I have also always had short hair and cannot imagine getting extensions put. So I guess it is all relative. I don't think it is hard either. Getting the right tools is important and nowadays you have the products on Amazon and the tutorials on YouTube. If this is something you care about then you can make it happen for you. The first time doing anything will take concentration and time. The more you do, the faster and easier it will become. - I make my own wax but I also use Gigi Hot Wax (and Warmer) that is available on Amazon. - Diamond Microdermabrasion machine is also available on Amazon - Paraffin Wax warmers are also available on Amazon. - I buy haircolor in bulk and online (Brand NaturTint) because it is super expensive at Whole Foods. |
Bitchy PP here. Rest assured that I do take care of myself and love a good grooming routine as much as the next person, but what PP described is on another level. I simply don't know any woman who works full-time and has a family who has that much extra time on her hands to do all of this each week. In addition to the 1-2 hours each week it takes to actually do the treatments, there's the time spent making the scrubs and lotions, obtaining the ingredients, etc. And she's spending the time to do the same treatments on her DD. That adds up. But PP is right: her grooming routine is definitely "above average!" Kudos to you because it really is impressive. |
I am 55 yrs old. Married for 30+ yrs. Probably 20 yrs older than most moms here? So, I have years and years and years of experience in running a household, planning ahead, taking care of kids (who are not really kids anymore), making my lotion-potion remedies, making meals, juggling chores, being frugal, doing my 9-5 work and taking care of myself. Seriously, YEARS. What I have written is not something that happened in a few months. It evolved over years. I will take it as a compliment. There will always be something that others can do effortlessly that I cannot do. For example - I can do a brisk walk and some yoga and call it a day. But then I see many young moms running with their babies in running strollers and I am amazed that they have the stamina to run and that too with their babies along for the ride!!. Now, that is impressive. |
This is me minus the hair color and Botox. Get facials once a month massages twice a month. |
Sebamed bodywash, lotion and shampoo.

I think it is awesome and aspire to be as diligent to my self care/extra hygiene. I have little kids and am lucky to wash my hair in a given day. I’m inspired by your dedication and hope to slowly get more into a routine beyond teeth/soap/and vitamin c. |
the title makes me think of enemas or douches or somebody cleaning out their insides or something. Everything else is in the range of normal. |
You sound crazy. |
-Laser hair removal to legs, bikini, underarms. Or shave as needed. -Deep conditioning to hair once per week -haircut/trim every 3-4 months -body oil or good creme all over after showers. -trim and file nails weekly |
If you spend 1.5 hours a day on grooming for your entire adult life, you will spend about 10% of all your waking time on this planet on grooming. Over 50 years of adulthood, that is 5 whole YEARS of your life.
I would personally rather spend that time on other areas of self improvement, accomplishment, and having fun. But, that is a choice each person has to make for themselves. Note, though, that to the extent we expect this of women (and not of men), we are placing a major burden on the lifetime accomplishments of women as a group. |
All of this is pretty basic for a young person who does not gave graying hair. |
Being well groomed and looking good (along with being qualified) has opened opportunities for me professionally. First impressions are made on many things including appearance.
