I Am Not a Fruit Person

Anonymous
I'm trying to add more fruit into my diet because I barely eat any as it is and I want to clean things up a bit. The problem is that I just don't like fruit. It all tastes too sweet or tart to me except for a banana, but I can't rely only on bananas. I do like blackberries mixed with plain greek yogurt, so that is one option to try. What's your go-to for incorporating fruit into your diet for at least 2 servings a day? I do like blackberries mixed with plain greek yogurt, so that is one option to try. Is there a good green smoothie recipe that includes some fruit?

Why do you need fruit?
I don't like it much and rarely eat it either.
I don't think you need fruit for the sake of having fruit. If your diet is deficient in a vitamin or mineral, or what have you, find other ways to get it.
It's like kids and milk. If they don't like milk, they can get calcium and vitamin d from other foods.

You don't like fruit? Don't eat it. Eat more veggies. Done.

as long as you are eating enough vegetables and getting enough fiber there is no reason you have to eat fruit.

OP here--really? good! I do eat lots of vegetables and I'm not deficient in any vitamins (just had annual physical). I just barely have fruit except for the occasional banana and thought that maybe it's time to switch things up.

I make sorbet out of frozen peaches or frozen strawberries — a one ingredient recipe. Maybe you would like melon? Easy to find one not too ripe so its not too sweet or too tart.

I'm with you. I do like fruits but I find most to be too tart. And I'm allergic to most fruits. I try to eat a small apple everyday (even though they tend to make my throat itch).

I like perssimmons as they are not as tart. It's a fall fruit so they should be pretty good right now.

If the sweetness bothers you, try using fruit in savory recipes -- peaches or apples cooked with pork, pineapple stir fry, strawberries in salad.

Have you tried peeling and/or cooking the apples?

NP

Cooking will definitely help with this allergy. My sister and my son can not eat most fresh fruit due to an oral allergy, but she can eat everything if it s cooked.

Same, I'm not a fruit fan. I like fresh berries, but they're kinda expensive for something I'm not crazy about.

Modern fruit isn't really great anyway, it has way more sugar than real fruit you'd find in the wild.

Also keep in mind a lot of the veggies we eat (tomatoes, avocados, squash, cucumbers, peppers, etc) are technically fruit.

Tomatoes are fruits!

I dislike fruit for the same reason as you, op. I much prefer the blandness of vegetables.

If you really think you can eat enough vegetables..

So that is 5 servings of vegetables per day you are supposed to eat, plus 3 in fruit to be replaced by vegetables.
