I Am Not a Fruit Person

I don’t think the PP whose throat itches when she eats apples should keep eating apples!

I'm with you. I do like fruits but I find most to be too tart. And I'm allergic to most fruits. I try to eat a small apple everyday (even though they tend to make my throat itch).

I like perssimmons as they are not as tart. It's a fall fruit so they should be pretty good right now.

Have you tried peeling and/or cooking the apples?

Cooking will definitely help with this allergy. My sister and my son can not eat most fresh fruit due to an oral allergy, but she can eat everything if it s cooked.

I'm the ^^PP with the fruit allergy. Yes, cooked fruit doesn't make my throat itch since the heat kills off the allergen, but I am not a fan of cooked fruit, except for tomatoes. I do eat a lot of tomatoes, cooked or otherwise. We grow them, too.

I also read that if you nuke the apple for a minute or so before eating it (raw) it will kill off some of the allergens. I did that once or twice, but not a fan of it. I like my apples cool and crisp.

I just eat a small apple, so it's fine. My persimmons on my tree are almost ripe enough to eat so I'll be eating those for the next few days.

Fruit is nature's candy and should be consumed in moderation. It gets lumped into vegetables on the food pyramid (or whatever the modern plate thing is) because it's plant-derived. But nutrition-wise, fruit generally has far too much sugar to be a pillar of your diet. Focus on leafy greens and other parts of the plant, and leave the fruit out completely if you so desire.

I don't eat a lot of fruit either but I make sure I get a big variety of veggies in veggie-dense foods like vegetable soup, for example.

Next time you nuke an apple, slice it up and sprinkle some cinnamon and other spices on it. It'll taste like an apple pie without the crust or extra calories. Other fruit that heats well with spices include pears and mandarins. Berries also heat well, but I prefer to mix them into food like oatmeal or pancakes instead of eating straight. Strawberries, blueberries, cherries, etc.

I like most veggies but do not like fruit that much. On my running days, I follow up the run with cherry juice and tomato juice for hydration and recovery. Mon-Fri I eat yogurt and mix in blueberries and raspberries. (And pomegranate arils if I can find them.) I eat veggies at lunch and dinner.

I am not that into fruit either. Plus it is higher in sugar than vegetables. It’s fine to eat just vegetables.
